View Full Version : NEW Type of SPAM
VapoRub 04-13-2005, 01:49 AM PHONE SPAM!!!
It's not even a person annoying the heck out of you. It's a pre recording which is getting on my nerves cause you can't yell at them or hurt their feelings :(
Did it tell you to call back at a free toll number ?
Ackoo-jt 04-13-2005, 02:33 AM O, this is nothing new! I have been getting these for about a year now. The worst thing was when I got one on my cell-phone. Not only are they wasting my time, they are wasting my minutes now! I went to the government website a few months ago and signed up for the privacy act or something along those lines for cell phones. Apparently they are allowed to call cell phones now.
Since I have done that, I havent' received even one call!
niyogi 04-13-2005, 03:02 AM Next stop:
Humanoid robot door-to-door salesmen!
Roj
Innerplanet 04-13-2005, 03:29 AM I feel for you. I had to change our fax number because of spam through it. We kept running out of ink...incredible. Everything from vacation deals to stock prices.
Haddy 04-13-2005, 10:21 AM I always love the one...
"blah blah blah save you money blah blah blah..........please wait for a reprasentative...." *Click*
Alot of them have a delay as well for getting around voice mail I guess but its easy to tell now if i pick up, just a long pause then a comp voice starts talking....
Amish_Geek 04-13-2005, 11:18 AM I know of a lawyer in Minneapolis who only does Fax Spam cases. Because fax spams are Illegal due to it costing the recipient. In Minnesota, you can take the spammer to court for $1000 per page, so this lawyer does all the footwork of trackign the spammer down with the phone company, and wins almost all the time.

Ohhhh man, I could have been rich! I wish I would have known about this. We had a whole drawer full of advertisements from the fax. I’m talking about six or seven per day. The fax was near my desk and when I would see what it was about half way through, I would pull the phone line out. This way, at least it didn’t print the full page. It really got ridiculous after a while.
:eek2:
VapoRub 04-13-2005, 02:31 PM I think they went to an advanced level. Normally I can tell if the voice is computerized but this time. This is how it went:
Hi, Can I speak to XXXX XXXXX?
ME: Yes, thats meeh :)
Them: Great, how are you today?
ME: Great here, so what do you need.
Them: "AD STARTS"
ME: Not interested.
Them: "AD pauses"
THEM: "You are not obligated to purchase anything but if you can spare 20 seconds, you may find interest"
THEM: "AD Resumes"
ME: "Hang's up"
I was just suprised that if you say anything, their ad pauses and says something different. Amazing.

Reminds me of that movie where robots kill people and if you ask them something they stop "killing mode", kindly answer your question and when they are finished return to "killing mode". LOL

Corey Bryant 04-13-2005, 05:29 PM For the United States, at least for residential customers, there is the Do Not Call List (https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx).
I think the newest spam out there are the ones that come thru your text messaging services

Thats funny actually :D
The only phone spam I got before was I came back from the shop and on my answering machine was spam regarding why I should vote for xxxx at the next election!
LP-Trel 04-13-2005, 07:17 PM Just do what I do, hang up. ;)

Since politicians wrote the law, political phone spam is actually not illegal although it is annoying as any other.
thomas.smith 04-13-2005, 09:16 PM I don't find spam very annoying at least unless it doesn`t get out of control like email spam was a while ago.. You can just ignore it, delete it or hang up. It is annoying if they are sending it via fax though.
