I have been so excited about my plans of leaving ala*****. However, I have to voice my concern about what I saw last night. The VDI network appeared to be down, at least from my location for about 10 minutes or more around 12:00 midnight EST. It came back up for a minute then went back down again during that time period. I could not access vdi.net, cpanel.net, ultraspeedusa.com, or any other sites hosted on their network. In addition, I was unable to effectively complete a Trace route on those sites at that time, but the UUNET and Worldcome sites worked fine, and those are the networks that VDI is co-located on. I would like to know what the problem was. I have liked what I heard about VDI up until now, but seeing it down before I even join has to leave me concerned.

Yep, went down last night for a few minutes. Not sure of the details yet. As least it was in the middle of the night (for me anyway).

How about asking VDI directly?

We noticed it as well..my entire staff got flooded with pages.
VDI's network uptime has been excellent of late, and I am more than happy with the speed generally as well. They are also well within their promised uptime to myself, so Im very happy here- no one can be perfect all the time.

Hi "questions" !!
Last night between 11:45 and 12:10 EST I had a few problem with exim...
exim failed @ Sun Dec 17 23:44:20 2000. A restart was attempted automagicly.
exim failed @ Mon Dec 18 00:09:47 2000. A restart was attempted automagicly.
In both times I was able to log into WHM and by the time I got there, exim was running fine, and I was working in the new cpanel.net website (in another sirectory, on my machine) .. what I mean is that from MA I saw no downtime :/
I just find it very odd that out of the blue a new member "questions" just comes in to point to us that VDI had a 10 minute downtime ...
cheers

I also noticed the downtime around midnight also along with a few of my clients too. Also, looking at my MRTG graphs i see a sizable dip in bandwith around midnight too. This is coming from Bristol RI.

Well I spoke to William on ICQ. He says that one webhost was given the dreaded DOS attack, which caused the downtime. They seemed to have solved the problem well enough :)

Yes
The downtimes where: (aproximately)
6-8 minutes for Dos attack
6-8 Minutes to add Filter to router and reboot
Considering the nature of it, I think it was dealed with quite fast.
cheers

Yeah we got a couple of 2-4 minute periods last night where the servers were inacessible. We got paged but obviously this was something we couldn't do anything about.
