View Full Version : Warez hosting?
Sain Cai 03-10-2002, 06:40 PM I visited a few abandonware sties (even though it technically is still illegal) and was wondering who allows such content?
Of course you need not reply here to damage your company's rep, you can pm or email me.
Mainly I have a few games, that I would love to host, but is not neccessary (there is still AIM for that or a FTP)
The Laughing Cow 03-10-2002, 06:44 PM Interesting question. In the end warez/illegal stuff is still, well illegal. Though I would think that these kinds of sites are hosted on two types of networks:
Possibly in countries where laws are loose- maybe indonesia which I hear is one of the more fraudulant places on the world wide web
People hosting from home on ADSL/Cable and other high speed WAN technologies.
TGL4387DD 03-10-2002, 06:48 PM Armenia. cracks.am is hosted there and no one can do **** to them or you. Unless you can find a host that is based in international waters...lol.
avara 03-10-2002, 06:50 PM If you know where to look, you can find thousands of warez sites and servers -- all hosted from within the United States. I haven't actually seen any run from Indonesia, as I think they don't really have the connectivity there to support such large files being downloaded thousands of times.
As Cow said, most of these sites are probably hosted from college WANs, cable/ADSL, etc. I do not know any host which would host warez sites. It's just plain wrong, not to mention illegal.

...Let alone NOC/WAN Provider
TGL4387DD 03-10-2002, 06:52 PM Charging $600 for Adobe Photoshop is plain wrong.:D
The Laughing Cow 03-10-2002, 06:54 PM Not that this is that relevant but I think they should have more generous student licences etc.
I don't know many students who could afford the $600 let alone freelance designers
nleavens 03-10-2002, 07:04 PM They do have educational licenses for almost all web development software, that makes it more economically viable for today's college students, graphic design students, etc..
For example Photoshop 7.0 is running at 299.99 at JourneyEd.com, an educational software site. That's discounted dramatically.

I don't think so, all the high profile web hosting company here have strict rule disallowing illegal content. I don't know whether or not they are actually enforcing their rules, I can only speak for my company. Also, they are most certainly won't be able to host high bandwidth sites.
The Laughing Cow 03-10-2002, 07:21 PM Sorry- didn't mean to partion the blame. I was just going by the CC fraud I hear is very large from indonesia. No offence meant :)

Please note that we do nto permit warez discussions on the forum. If you'd like a host for legitimate reasons, feel free to post. Please discuss warez elsewhere.

uuallan PM'ed me as he was just going to post that unless Armenia has moved to somewhere in Florida, cracks.am is not hosted in Armenia. I thought that I'd let that in, just for a little fun. Don't we have enough countries in Florida already without Armenia being there? ;)
