I have about 300 hits per day website with Geocities,
and as it's getting bigger I'm thinking about using a paid service..
I know there are lots of good hosts with $15/month for CGI, MySQL, PHP and about 200MB of space.
And I looked at Geocities' plans and they were a bit too expensive compared to other hosts.
But what I need is stabillity, and i know Geocities is stable.
I'm just wondering if it would be a wise move to choose Geocities paid hostings, or should I look for another host like tera-byte.
I need about 200MB space and I need my host to be STABLE.
Thanks for replies, in advance!

Well,
IMO Your average Linux server with WHM/Cpanel on a good network i.e not just cogent is good.
I think also with a properly configured server you will have months of uptime only interrupted by maintenance.
You might want to consider some of the bigger players if uptime is mission critical.
Maybe Verio (http://www.verio.com/products/hosting/web/plans/) would be an option but they don't come cheap - 25bucks for 1gb bandwidth.
Hmmm, I heard Geocities has some problems and that they may stop their services soon... those are just rumors. Anyone knows more on this?

I recommend reading this thread:

Overall I think there are plenty of stable hosts out there -- and on WHT -- which could offer you stable, reliable hosting with 99.9% uptime with more features and at a lower price than Geocities. :)

From what I've heard the Geocities/Yahoo network isn't exactly picture perfect (ie: slow sometimes). At any rate, I'd choose a company that lives and breathes web hosting over one whose focus is still everything but any day.

I used Yahoo! Websites for a few years without any problems. They were a good, reliable service. I finally outgrew them because they did not offer PHP, MySQL, cgi, ASP or anything else but Miva. If you don't need any frills, they are a reliable host.

Geocities is always very slow for me, and I often see sites down. I wouldn't recommend them.
