View Full Version : Sell domains using 2Checkout?
nybble 04-12-2005, 02:10 AM This just crossed my mind a moment ago but how many of you sell domains using 2Checkout?
I know they arn't bad at shutting down orders and refunding money so I just wanted to know how you guys have it? Ever have someone register 25 domains and then 2Checkout refunds the payment due to 'risk'?
Keep in mind I'm talking about instant setup domains. On a side note.. how do you feel about non-instant domain ordering?
I've picked this apart in my head for awhile but I figured it was time to call in the groupies.
whatever 04-12-2005, 03:01 AM The most domains from 1 person ordered with 2checkout for me was 17, and they were instantly registered. 2Co had no issue with it, I'm use to customers usually ordering 1-3 domains no trouble/
steven-v 04-14-2005, 08:16 PM we had over $1000 frozen with 2CO about 12 months ago + "security deposit" (5% or something like that) with over 120 transactions and only 1 chargeback (as we find out later by mistake) - trying to call them several times, send emails - no answer - no deposit to our checking account since then.
Don't trust 2CO !
Bashar 04-14-2005, 10:38 PM i used to use paysystems but after their shutdown 2checkout is my only option so i use them now.
HostingInsider 04-15-2005, 01:10 AM I'd rather use an actual ecommerce merchant account than a 4rd party service, but for some people it works fine.
Professor 04-15-2005, 03:27 AM 2checkout's fees would have to be a turnoff.
The bulk of the domain registration industry exists on such small margins that 2checkouts(relative) high fees would form a significant barrier to success.

If you've had "over $1000 frozen" for aprox 12 months, I suggest you email me.
Devil Inside 04-15-2005, 10:10 PM I've never had a problem with 2co myself. Always helpful and responsive. Which I'm greatly appreciative of.
However, after seeing how vendors were ignored and/or mistreated on the forum - I found it a better option to move on before I DID experience a problem like they were having.
Payments from 2CO were not being deposited in to their bank accounts for whatever reason. Support tickets going un-answered, vendors chose to use the forum for their next method of contact.
Receiving little to no help there - I came up with the stupid idea of posting 2CO's phone number and BBB information on that thread (all of which is openly available on their website). Also making it very clear that phone support was to be a last resort when other support means were exhausted.
Shortly after my post (hours) the entire thread was deleted. Which even that I could understand if it were a public forum. However, it was dedicated to the vendors of 2CO!!
To this day I wonder what happened to those vendors....did they receive their $$ in a timely manner?... after already being 11+ days late...
I've since moved to EFTSecure - which some have said it's a pain to signup with - but it seemed pretty standard to me. Fill out some paperwork, fax it in, and you good to go.
Now - to make my post not-so-Off-Topic...
I've never had a problem with 2CO cancelling orders due to their amount. Only the obvious things like a CC being used rapidly within a recent time period - or incorrect address/ph# for the card.
But I was also using a 3rd party cart (ModernBill) so all 2CO saw was the amount to charge and a generic term for the product.
I assume you're using the 2CO cart for your orders?
TomD--->
mind if I shoot you an email as I still have an account with 2CO?
I responded to an email from 2CO a few weeks ago - but never received a response. Nothing urgent - so I've slacked off on following up... :)
Thanks.
aingaran 04-15-2005, 10:23 PM I've only been with 2co for a short while, and based on the limited duration of my time with them, I have no complaints. Hopefully, it continues.
As far as domain name registration goes, I've had clients register 1 domain name at a time...Not in bulk, so I can't help you there. Again, before registering the domain name, if they're registering 25 at a time, that's close to 250 bucks, you'd want to verify that the order is legitimate.
steven-v 04-15-2005, 11:03 PM Well my opinion if you processing more then $1,000 a month and/or have overseas customers (in our case from UK and Greece) - never deal with 2CO - they going to "freeze" your money and you going to have a headache by trying to get your money back - when you submit ticket nobody reply - same story with phone calls.
Worldpay much better solution - used for more then an year without even 1 issue.
to TomD - we already contacted our customers and they process chargebacks against CO2 because we never had payments from you. This will give you a little lesson.

Devil Inside,
Feel free to contact me at the email address below.
Steve,
I pulled your account from the email domain you used in response to another post in these forums. 2CO never held payment on you, and you certainly did not have a $1,000.00 pending balance... "for about a year".. unless of course, you had more than 1 account... please enlighten me
steven-v 04-16-2005, 02:34 PM Tomd - well, it's long time story. First of all after we are processed more then $7,000 thru your guys and stay with you for more then 6 months (been kinda happy at first) - but then, for some reason our account get suspended (even if we don't have any illegal chargebacks/fraudulent orders, only few orders marked as "high risk" because they come from Greece and UK). We cannot login to merchant interface - start trying to find out what's wrong:
1) I did submit several ticket's - got one responce from "Tajal" or "Tajah" (some kind of unique name) to call him at 1-800 number
2) Did call several times without any luck - nobody live here
3) Submit more tickets - no reply
It's take more then 2 weeks to play around (without any luck) and I just ask my customers on annual contact's to process chargebacks agains 2CO since we never had paid for service and re-send payments using PayPal.
At first I though to make a fight - spoked with a lawyer, but since amount is too small - we decide just to forget about this bad expirience and work with somebody else - give up with 2CO.
Today we working with Worldpay and don't have this headaches anymore (I don't advertise Worldpay - just sharing my expirience).
As we learn - if you have overseas customers (in our case mostly europeans) - choose somebody else. May be, for USA-only based customers 2CO is good (we had less the 20% of USA customers).
2CO software/interface is good, but service/policy is not so good.
Since I already got some of my money back (thru chargebacks against 2CO) - I don't want to give you our CO2 ID and site name - this is mostly information for you to improve your services. Keep our reserve balance for improving your services - this is our investment in 2CO ;-)
Peace
Steven
steven-v 04-16-2005, 03:26 PM Tom,

kosmo 04-16-2005, 04:51 PM steven-v,
we process far more than 1000 USD monthly AND have overseas clients from all over the world but never had any single problem with 2CO in more than 2 (maybe 3) years. All their payments were on time (no exception).
Other than their very untalented fraud check department, we are very satisfied.

IH-Rameen 04-16-2005, 05:34 PM Been using 2co for a few months now.
Haven't had a problem. Yes the fees can be a turn off, but if you have a good enough profit margin, it shouldn't be a put off.
We opt for cheques to be sent to us. All of which have been sent to us (in the UK) from USA pretty quickly and hassle free.
However, a $15 fee for a chargeback which we have no chance against winning is the only problem. Not really 2co's fault (but could try to at least stand up for vendor), just Visa's stupid policy.
To sum up, I would recommend 2Checkout.
steven-v 04-16-2005, 05:36 PM $15 for chargeback is CHEAP - we have Vital (Merchant Account) for one of our projects with $25.00 per chargeback.
When it's come to fees - 2CO is very good (this why we pick them in the first case) - no monthly fees, no statement fees and 5.45% processing fees.

WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE, DUDE ! (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=393316&perpage=15&pagenumber=1) It is not "use 2CheckOut to sell domains" ! It is having "2Checkout resell domains for you". :D :D :D
