I am interested in starting a webhosting company and I don't want to be humongous or anything just enough to bring in about $1000-$2000 a month sort of as a side venture for now but in the next 2 years doing it full time once I get everything in order. Is there a place out there that will offer services like 24x7 phone support for my company. I do not really want to hire several people for round the clock service for a small amount of clients, that does not seem like a realistic option. Any input would be great, this is a great community for self starters and I appreciate the help

$1000-2000 PROFIT/month with a small amount of clients? And employees? No, not possible. :( - I think you'll find that MANY people here have been in the business 1-3 years and not making 1k-2k/month profit.

well I planned on just me doing most of it, I just want a decent amount of good clients and I do not plan on doing the budget plans of like 2.95/mo for 3gb of space. that's why I wanted a sort of "as needed" phone support staff personnel. I know there are options that do that, I recall calling places and getting their "answering center" that was a separate company trained to answer a few basic questions and facilitate trouble tickets and what not

Look into TouchSupport.com, USA based techs, offer outsourced support (phone, ticket, chat), they are amazing

Don't get into this business thinking it's "easy" or will need very little time!

It's possible that can happen, but that depends on the type of customer you are going after.

Initially, I reccomend handling everything yourself

I imagine for quite awhile I will be handling everything myself but in 2 years I will be moving to Roatan, Honduras and from there I would still love to run a webhosting business to bring in some extra income for the family and still give an excellent level of support. I hope by then I can have a good steady stream of permanent business customers to keep my revenue going. I already have a few businesses I am hosting currently for $39 a month

I am going after customers I will probably have to talk to a few times and talk them into hosting with me first. I do not want 2.95/month customers or 3,000 websites per machine. I want to run wuality people on wuality machines and give premium support

Not sure where you are located now but central america would seem like a good nich market. With a little research that could be confirmed.

Like said hosting, especially higher price hosting, isnt something that people can usually do as a side venture for extra income. When people pay more money they expect more as well. Not saying it cant be done but it may be harder than you think...Research is the key..

yeah that's why I am here doing a bit of research, I will be available to my clients personally most of the time, it is just the night time I worry about, I sure am not going to stay up at 4am waiting for something to break;) My target market is towards other business professionals and I will be implementing programs like hipergate and forum software and things of that nature and other advanced feature sets in order to justify my price, and consultations are part of that package, so I will be basically more of a consultant selling a solution for web presence, rather than just someone signing up blindly over the web with no initial consultation

We just started charging our customers a premium in order to access our 24x7 phone support. We've had no complaints, and actually have had many compliaments. Most of our corporate clients signed up for it within 2 days of the announcement we sent to them.

It is possible to make good money from web hosting, but you must have a product that brings value to your clients.

A client will buy just about anything from you for any price if you can show them how it benefits their business, makes them money, saves them money, or makes their life easier.

Concentrate on providing value, and then learn how to sell it. That's the key to success.

Web hosting is definately not an overnight business, like any other business it requires an insane amount of hours put in at the start, you'd want to get into the mix and know what you are doing before going to the outsourcing companies, or even they would be able to help you... because you don't know what is right and what is wrong.

Think through it carefully, $1000 - $2000 a month steady profit, can take some time.

Just my $0.02

yeah that's what I am attempting to do, by the time I leave in 2 years I want to have at least a decent amount of income to support myself
