I want to balance my load a little and move some sites from one of my servers to the other...I can do it with the WHM very smoothly and redirect it to the new server with the DNS by modifying the IP that it points to. My problem is the mail wont transfer...I mean I have to use the IP for the pop and smtp on the mail once I move it to the new IP on the other server. Is there a way to transfer the mail or point the mail to the other server too?

Do you mean the messages themselves, or the mail accounts? I do believe that it's possible to transfer the messages as well. Though I have never tried.

Well...I want to be able to recieve the mail that goes to my domain once it is moved from server A to server B. I moved my site to server B and the mail stopped after I pointed the DNS. I dont want or need the mail to stop. I fixed it by going into my email client (Outlook) and replacing mail.mydomain.com with my IP number on server b. I did this for both POP and SMTP. This is a workaround that did work, but I dont want to have to change the mail client when I move a site.

Did I just onfuse you?

Okay, so it's the propagation that you don't want to deal with? I don't know if there's anyway around this besides having your clients either, do what you did, or add your nameserver to their network settings on their desktops. Neither of which would make clients happy.

I hope that's what you meant.

If you use one server and a master, and others as slaves for your DNS, it makes it much easier to transfer sites from one server to another :)

Can you explain further please?

Sure.

Lets say, for example, you have 3 servers.
Setup your nameservers to use 2 of the servers. The primary nameserver will be your master nameserver. Your secondary nameserver should be one of the slaves, and the 3rd server too should be one of the slaves.

DNS records are passed from server to server, meaning you can have ns1.domain.com and ns2.domain.com, yet use multiple servers.

If you're looking to do something like this, get O'reilly's DNS & Bind book, as it will prove invaluable.

Hi Allen
You wont get too much trouble if you check out both account in the midtime of the domain propagation.
Other than that, I think that you have not too much options :(

BTW, did you got my email that I sent near 1 week ago? If not, please drop me a line to jorgec@downtownhost.com
