Is Windows an OS option?

TulipSystems1

Battle,

which version of windows would you want to use? In general windows 2003 would perform too poorly on any of the above servers.

*Update*

The quad ppro is sold, if anyone is interested I can go through the stock of older equipment and we have a number of ppro systems as well as some dual pIII 600mhz and dual 300mhz systems.

As our initial post states the datacenter is our own datacenter in Atlanta, Georgia.

We will accept check / money order only on 6-month ($210) or 1-year terms ($350/yr)

Hm, great offer and venture!

Have you been operating under this ts-host.com?

TulipSystems1

Yes, we've recently made some changes in our management which is leading to the "cleaning house" on the older hardware and will lead to our new offerings shortly.

Through the years and the .com boom and subsequent explosion the name has changed but the core people are the same. I guess we would have been best known under the "HostAmerica" name circa 1999 :)

I presume it's on your website somewhere, but for those of us who don't desire to install Flash plugins, could you briefly list your "multiple redundant connections to multiple carriers"? :) Thanks!

Oh, also, is Debian an option on (for instance) a Netra?

TulipSystems1

Ankheg:

Our providers are currently Level(3) and PSINet (which was purchased by Cogent)

In relation to the sun equipment I was mistaken on what hardware we actually had. We have the following:

2 x Ultra 1 Creator 3d
2 x SparcStation 4
2 x Sparcstation 20
1 x Sparcstation 10
1 x E450
1 x Enterprise 4500

Yes, on the sparcs we can do either Debian or Gentoo.

I was thinking along the lines of Windows 2000 Server or even just ME would do.

can you do slackware?

TulipSystems1

As long as the hardware is up to it, slack 10 isn't a problem.

Hello

The servers are managed?

kufel

The servers are managed?

stop a think for a few seconds, at $35/mo total price for a server, what do you think?

well, if you will define managed as:

1. they make sure its plugged into a power outlet
2. tkey make sure it is connected to a network
3. if it does not respond someone comes over and pokes it with a stick

then I guess they are.

You've got it :)

Actually you are correct they are not "managed"

We do insure that power and network is available. Hardware is also supported. Beyond that the server is unmanaged. We will do the initial installation of the OS (with the exception of Gentoo that is up to you to configure) beyond that it is your responsibility to manage the server.

Thanks,

augustino

Hi

Just one question - can you configure the reverse DNS lookups on these servers so we can be (eg) ourserver.ourdomain.com rather than (eg) dedicated_machine.dedicated_provider.com?

Thanks

TulipSystems1

yes, "reverse dns" or PTR record service is provided. However, vanity reverse dns for IRC purposed is not allowed, IRC is strictly forbidden on our network :)

Thanks!

Is the Enterprise 4500 still available, and if it is, can we get Debian with that?

I'll check and see if it's been claimed.

Could you also check to see if you have the E450 available? We may be interested in getting both.

Thanks!

We have the following

Sun E4500
=======
2 x 400MHz 8M Cache CPUs
2048 Ram
2 x 9.3gb scsi

Sun E450
=======
2 x 450MHz cpus, 1M cache (need to check on that)
1024 Ram
2 x 9.3gb scsi

Sun 220R
=======
2 x 450mhz cpus
1024 ram
2 x 9.3gb scsi

gentoo should be compatible with all of the above, I'll check into debian but I am not sure about debian on the 4500.

Thanks,

-Ryan

Ryan, are we able to get Solaris 10 on there? If not can we try Debian and that does not work, go with Gentoo.

Please send me an email at aaron AT crucialparadigm.com

Ryan,

I'm basically looking for something I can run a small website on and experiment with a bit of email etc and general admin tasks.

A few questions..

Would one of these 35$/month systems be suitable for this?

What is your minimum contract period?

Thanks

Dave.

TulipSystems1

Dave,

One of the pIII 600mhz boxes would be great for "playing" we only have 2 of them remaining. This would be fine for a couple small static websites or even one small dynamic php/mysql site. Keep in mind the limiting factor on a small server like that would be the memory.

The minimum period is 1-month you can do monthly at $35/month or yearly at $350/year (2 months free)

Thanks,

-Ryan
