View Full Version : Google Adwords - Forecasted CPC Accurate?
stokes_83 04-07-2005, 03:01 PM For those who have had successful adwords campaigns in the past, did you find the estimated CPC that the keyword estimator gives you to be accurate?
I know most people have said the forecasted clicks tends to me higher than what actually happens, but I am wondering about the CPC.
For example, if a max CPC of $5 per click is placed, and the estimator forecasts an average CPC of $2, is the actual CPC close to $2?
Thanks.
Nadabrahma 04-07-2005, 05:21 PM Back when I used this, it seemed rather inaccurate. It tended to inflate costs. But this was some months ago....
Turboz 04-07-2005, 05:26 PM Haven't you already posted a topic about this???
Can't you at least wait a SHORT while?

olli460 04-07-2005, 06:38 PM Ive been using google adwords for a few days now had around 30 clicks and no order....
andrewjab 04-09-2005, 11:55 AM olli460, Why is your bronze domain registration £9.99 but your silver and gold are $9.99. Is it suppose to be a £ symbol.
We have had about 80 clicks and 1 sale :) from adwords. It is very saturated when it comes to webhosting categories.
I did hear someone say that you usually get a 1% ROI from this type of marketing. It all depends on what the person is looking for when they visit the website, some are just looking to compare there current provider against some competition, find out the latest deals and a very small proportion are looking for a new host.
VolkNet 04-09-2005, 02:49 PM It all depends on how effective your ads are.
You need to do some A-b testing to determine the best % you can get :)
olli460 04-09-2005, 02:52 PM Thanks for letting me know... weve just changed designs. i am paying £1 per click and £10 per day... im not sure if this is a good place to start. How much is everyone else paying?

I'm not. I sent Google adwords to /dev/null/ a long time ago as I found they were very good at taking money for clicks that had no results.

We have found the estimates are inaccurate and can lead you to not bid on keywords because you see a higher estimated CPC than you get in real life. We have always tested words (starting with a low maximum) for a few days to see what the real CPC ends up being and then we ratchet up the maximum to get a decent placement. The differences between estimated and real were quite significant.
stokes_83 04-12-2005, 02:12 PM The problem I find with Adwords now a days is that if you are not on the first page or high on page 2, you receive next to nothing in the way of clicks. It makes it very hard to evaluate keywords and the value of those keywords.
In my recent testing, if you place a $7 bid on a fairly popular keyword, you are likely to pay very close to that $7 range, even though the estimator reports your avg. click cost to be much lower.
Perhaps the cost per click will become less with the more clicks and better CTR?
As for the conversion rate, I find it to be much better than other PPC hosts. 1% for a well designed Google hosting ad is very very low. Most see 3-5%.
HostPromoter 04-12-2005, 06:47 PM Speaking from personal experience, I would recommend not allowing the ads to be displayed on content sites and only on search engine pages. 1-4 % is very possible with a healthy bid and well worded ad.

Yup usually the conversion on content sites tend to be lower than search. But once the technology of analyzing the content and delivering more accurate ads improve, the difference could close in more.;)
