I know this exists, I just dont remember who makes it. Just like being at the location with a keyboard and monitor with the output being sent over the internet. For when a system crashes etc...

Dilhole, seen this http://www.wti.com/cms.htm ? qps 03-09-2002, 06:29 PM Yeah, we looked into this a few months back, and they wanted something like $25K for the equipment, plus $500 per machine. An excellent idea, but way too expensive at this point. allera 03-09-2002, 06:56 PM Is there any reason why KVMs need to be so expensive? I've looked at some because switching monitor/keyboards from one machine to another is annoying and I just turn away from the prices. In my mind, a simple switch between 1 output and multiple inputs is very basic technology. Why do they cost so much? I could see KVM over IP, but even that isn't anything ground-breaking. Redirect the output to an ethernet card and just write the software to drive it all. Hardly worth $25k (or $1k for 8-16 ports or whatever the crazy price is). Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'll build one... AlaskanWolf 03-09-2002, 06:59 PM i think your referring to bios redirect over serial We actually are replacing our major servers with intel servers/mobos so we will have support for it. There are very few boards that have bios redirect over serial, namely intel / sun boards.....i know pogolinux's web(whatever) 1000 supports is We will be investing in a cyclades TS2000 (www.cyclades.com) which has a price tag of $2700.00 There are cheaper ones out there but we got some good reviews on these machines. Mike the newbie 03-09-2002, 07:00 PM If you can shoot your console out the serial port, this may be what you need: http://www.comtrol.com/products/specs/specs.asp?product=dmprimo It's about US$250. ReliableServers 03-10-2002, 03:33 AM So many good products for me to look at now :) I am not sure what it is called. Whatever I can connect to the servers via it be serial or kvm that I can telnet to the unit and I have control over the connected servers, change bios settings and see the thing bootup. Depending on price of course :) Thanks BurstNET 03-10-2002, 03:50 AM Emerge I-Link Sean R.
