What exactly is this "SPAM Assassin"?

Is it configurable per user?
Where's its website?
Easy to install?

Spam Assassin:

http://spamassassin.org/

It looks like it can be set up on a per-user or a system-wide basis.

Yes, it's now a feature in CPanel. It tags all spam with "***** SPAM *****" in the subject line, though it's not too great at doing that. It's also very basic: no filtering system (as in it can't filter all spam to a seperate e-mail box), etc..

Anyone?

Does anyone know why my spam assassin does not seem to use the spam.assassin.prefs.conf file. I want to enable some advanced spam assassin features

# By default, spamassassin will include its report in the body
# of suspected spam. Enabling this causes the report to go in the
# headers instead. Using 'use_terse_report' for this is recommended.
#
report_header 0

# By default, SpamAssassin uses a fairly long report format.
# Enabling this uses a shorter format which includes all the
# information in the normal one, but without the superfluous
# explanations.
#
use_terse_report 0

# By default, spamassassin will change the Content-type: header of
# suspected spam to "text/plain". This is a safety feature. If you
# prefer to leave the Content-type header alone, set this to 0.
#
defang_mime 1

# By default, SpamAssassin will run RBL checks. If your ISP already
# does this, set this to 1.
#
skip_rbl_checks 1

I want the spam report info (found now in the header), in the body of the mail and convert all html spam to txt. These are cool features that i would love to enable for may customers.

Is this possible? I have tried everting and i hate spam.

run it through procmail.

:0fw: spamassassin.lock
| /usr/local/bin/spamassassin

:0:
* ^X-Spam-Flag: YES
/$HOME/Maildir/.spam/

I am using it in conjuction with MailScanner on a Ensim box. Does this make a difference or do i still need to run it through procmail?

if so do you have any references.

Actually, set-up properly, spamassassin is VERY effective indeed:

total incoming messages: 82,280
blocked messages: 27,338 (33%)
clean messages: 54,942 (67%)

That was for a client last month - they reported maybe a dozen false positives (ie emails flagged as spam but weren't).

In my personal inbox, I get maybe 3 or 4 spam messages a week with SA enabled. Without it, around 700.
