View Full Version : New 2Ux2 Server Chassis!
jtan15 03-09-2002, 10:49 AM JTAN is proud to announce the new 2Ux2 chassis. With this new chassis, you can save space and money by building two systems in a single 2U high chassis. No need for costly low-profile parts that are required in a 1U server. The 2Ux2 mesasures 19"(W) x 21”(D) x 3.5"(H).
A bare chassis costs $99. With a matching lid, add $19.95. A full kit including a chassis, lid, and two 300 watt power supplies is $249. Remember, $250 is a competitive price for single 1U server chassis! For more information, please e-mail me at vince@jtan.com, or visit the 2Ux2 web site at http://www.2ux2.com. Thank you.
cheapunix 03-10-2002, 01:59 PM I can imagine the heat problems with this.....
porcupine 03-10-2002, 04:50 PM Where is that link for the 4 servers in a 1u chasis i used to have? Pretty nifty thing, like a little row of daughter borads to make 4 seperate servers in a pizza box ^_^.
nleavens 03-10-2002, 04:54 PM Vincent,
Sounds like a nice concept, i'd be interested in seeing some specs as to how warm the server gets during typical use though.
Revelation 03-10-2002, 09:58 PM maybe you're talking about racksaver.com? I think they do four cpus in a 2U chasis.
porcupine 03-10-2002, 10:03 PM Revelation: Most likely, i lost the URL. It was a nifty concept, but once i saw the price i nearly fell over, i don't know any datacenter that charges so much for space that would make that worthwhile enough for me to consider it :(
jtan15 03-10-2002, 11:25 PM In response to the heat issue, cooling is a strong point for the 2Ux2 and a big disadvantage for 1U systems. We use full sized fans with our 2Ux2 units, not the small fans that are required with 1U servers. It can use full sized power supplies as well, not small 1.5" high units. We use ordinary power supplies with their built in 80mm fans, and the air flow on each of the two systems in a 2Ux2 case occupies twice the air volume that a typical 1U system occupies.
The chassis can run Intel Processors with genuine Intel full height fans and heat sinks. It can also run vertically mounted slot 1 processors with Intel approved fans.
We are currently in the process of phasing out all of our old 1U systems and integrating them into our new 2Ux2 case. Some of the old 1U cases we had gave us cooling problems, but the new 2Ux2 cases with exactly the same parts are running flawlessly.
I encourage rackspace providers to e-mail me at vince@jtan.com for more information. We are ready to give away free sample cases to those interested, not only to prove how much your hardware costs can be reduced, but also to show how much more reliable the 2Ux2 case can be compared to two 1U servers.
jtan15 03-10-2002, 11:32 PM Also, I would like to clarify about the price of these cases. For the price of a single 1U case, you are able to fit two full sized systems in a single 2U case. Right there, the price of cases just cut in half. Secondly, you are not required to use the small parts needed for a 1U server, so you save even more in that area. Not only will these savings bring in more profit, but they will also allow you to lower your prices allowing you to compete more in the hosting business.
porcupine 03-10-2002, 11:36 PM vincent, can you provide us with some pics/diagrams, this is very interesting, and i'd love to see what it looks like on the inside :)
jtan15 03-10-2002, 11:39 PM There are two pictures at www.2ux2.com :)
porcupine 03-10-2002, 11:40 PM Humm, got any overheads? It's hard to see from those. What sizes of motherboards can it fit in?

Directly from their site: "JTAN has validated the ASUS CUSI-M Motherboard . Other Micro-ATX boards boards may work as well"
TradeViceroy 03-12-2002, 02:22 AM Hey Vincent...I've e-mailed you regarding this case. However, I haven't gotten a response. Just curious though, but what are these "samples" you speak of? Thanks in advance.

Sorry again for the delay ... I just responded to your e-mail.
A "sample case" is simply a real 2Ux2 case that we are offering to any companies who are seriously interested in purchasing cases for their NOC. Please e-mail me at vince@jtan.com if you are interested; we would be happy to ship you a case so you can try it out.
And with the size of motherboards, Walter is correct. We use standard ASUS CUSI-M Motherboards. More information can be found at http://www.formfactors.org/developer/specs/microatx/microatxspecs.htm
Thanks again. :)
