Apache went down, so I tried to restart it but got this message.

"httpd has failed, please contact the sysadmin."

I then attempted to recompile via whm which also failed and got the below message.

Any help on how to fix this would be very helpful. Im trying to get some support from my dedicated server provider but haven't gotten any reply in the last hr since its Dinix/WHP, so I figured I might get help here quicker.

what gets printed to screen when you type: service httpd configtest

Im having a problem getting ssh started from Cpanel, its just not loading when I click on it. Is there another way to run commands or get shell access?

Ok, I downloaded putty and can now get access to shell. This is what I got when I typed "service httpd configtest"


Syntax error on line 1100 of /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf:
Invalid command 'BytesLog', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration

pico httpd.conf go to line 1100 and see what is there post it and the lines around it.

This will most likely fix it:

First open up the httpd.conf for editing:
pico -w /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

Then find the AddModules section and enter this on a line:
AddModule mod_log_bytes.c

Next find the LoadModules section and enter this on a line:
LoadModule bytes_log_module libexec/mod_log_bytes.so



Restart apache and you should be set.

remove the # and comment out

by making it

Try and restart apache.

I tried what justadollarhostin suggested and that worked. Im not sure if it will be a permanent solution but things are back up now. Thanks for the help.
