Hi,

The url you gave us does not specifically show us what and where you what you inform.

The thread is quite long. Maybe you can summarize what you want to say.

Thanks.

Its one thing stating the law,

Its another thing implementing it!

The SSSCA, among other things, will make the following illegal:
* Assembling a home-built PC.
THEY WONT STOP THAT HAPPENING IN A HURRY:D

* Using a non-secure computer (ie, a computer built before the would-be implementation of the SSSCA) on a network.
AH - I TAKE IT THEY MEAN A NON M$?

* Widespread development of open-sourced (non-copyrighted and “digitally unsigned? software.
THEY WONT EVER STOP THIS!:D

* Use of open-sourced software (essentially the entire software platform for the UNIX and Linux operating systems, on which Computer Science research relies).
EH?

* University and corporate research on systems, debugging, security, and watermarking.
END OF LIFE ALTOGETHER:angry:

I smell a Microsoft/Sony digital encryption system getting marketed at all high street shops! Wonder if they will invent the next level of compression for streamed media together?

uh:angry:

It'll never get up. The US senate is just having a field day right now trying to push through as many bills as possible before everything returns to it's pre 9-11 sanity level. I have a feeling that their 'real' bill is probably designed to slip under that one - everyone noticed the crazy idea while the half baked one gets in under the wire.. it's politics.

Besides, every country has a few whack jobs in their governments that tend to come up with headline stealers and audio grabs so people remember who they are.

LOL The idea is too funny to even read. The senate knows much about computers as donkey.

That's a real piece of work.

The sheer chaos alone that such an act would cause almost makes me want to see it happen just for the show!

I don't think we've become total sheep, yet.

If this would happen, then hosting would die since Linux would be an 'unsigned' software.

I am guessing you don't use Microsoft Windows?

If they do this there would be revolution!

Are you sure this isn't one of those Congress-is-going-to-add-a-5-cent-surcharge-to-every-e-mail-you-send type deals?

I agree with Brendan. I'll just move over to European servers. No big deal. And I do not see why this would be the end of hosting? You Americans can always all start using Windows hosting :D

Man I love these politicians! They are always trying to get one up on the competitor that they come up with hairbraind ideas that are:

1. Impossible to implement (someone forgot to tell them that we live now in a global world, everything would move abroad and in the end the US suffers)

2. Just plain baised towards any company that has managed to make it, making it impossible for anybody that does not have 100 million to spend to make their make on the market!

I'm not worried about this one but one of these days, these guys in DC are going to get one of their stupid ideas passed and we're are going to get forced to pay the consequences.

Hehe, this reminds me one of those si-fi movies where the age is like 2120 and people trade hardware illegaly under ground. Anyone see that coming ?

Oh well, USA can't be #1 for ever in eletronics. There are countries that are very close to USA.

Not just us, but them as well. If any stupid thing like this gets passed, watch the US Economy go way below that of Japan or another than that springs up in electrons or computers. Then, not only will we be sorry, but congress will be too. All those income taxes on Dot Com guys like Jeff Bezso (amazon) would dry up pretty quickly :)

I thought Japan was #1 in electronics?

When I first heard about this, I thought it was some kind of joke. It'd be impossible to implement. Only someone that is ignorant about how computers operate would think up something stupid like this. If something like this is passed, I'd move to Canada. ;)

Never put too much faith in what you read on the Internet, obviously. However, even if this was truly discussed (I didn't read some thread at another web forum, nor do I see the need to), I'd not worry. That's not going to happen, there's been information and stuff like this, about this type of thing, for years and years. It never happens and it will not happen -- it's not even worth worrying about or discussing.

I also doubt that will pass.. Mabey they the senate's were smoking weed that day :D .
