Hi
I'm doing research on getting a dedicated server for my business. I will be designing and hosting sites for neighborhood and homeowner associations. Each site may have a bulletin board or two set up and each will most likely also have a MySql database for residents (for sign in information, content management, etc). Average size of each site will be 20 to 30 pages and the size of each neighborhood that the sites will service will have an average of 200 to 300 families. One of the companies I'm considering is Rackspace considering what I've read about the service on the boards. My question is how many sites could one server possibly host while still running smoothly. The size of the server I'm looking at is 30 GB. Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks!

By 30 GB you mean the bandwidth the server comes with for free? The bandwidth won't really limit you since you can simply buy more at any time. 30 GB is not that much - many single sites push far more.... while small specialty sites may only use 500 MB - less than 1 GB a month. It just depends on how popular your sites are in terms of how many people will visit them and how often they will visit combined with how large the content you are offering is. Forums do require CPU power, but you should have no problem hosting 100 - 300 small - mid sized sites on a decent server with adequate (512 MB) of Ram. Then again, a really popular forum with 100 people online at the same time might require it's own server. It just depends on how many people you expect to be visiting a site or a forum at a given time. Rackspace is expensive, but if you can afford it service is great.
