View Full Version : Anyone is a namecheap.com customer?
VinaGal 04-03-2005, 02:02 PM How long does it usually take you guys to register nameserver for your website? They said it usually takes up to 72 hours but it's been 4 days and my website isn't live yet  I added acct to the server already ...just waiting for the DNS propagation and it's taking sooooooooo long. I've contacted their support and it's been 2 days and still no reply. It only takes godaddy 1 day for DNS propagation changes. Arghhh  Damn, i should have registered with godaddy
JSpired 04-03-2005, 02:03 PM 72 hours max has been the norm for me, though usually far shorter. What's the url of the new nameservers and did you doublecheck to make sure you entered all the info correctly? If you're referring to the link in your profile, it renders just fine for me.
VinaGal 04-03-2005, 02:04 PM no..it's not the URL in my signature. It's my other website. I checked the IPs to make sure it's correct....twice...wait ...make it 3 times....
grrrrr

Care to share them so someone else can check?
Kerry Jones 04-03-2005, 02:10 PM I've been a namecheap customer for nearly a year now. It has usually taken 24 hours or less for my domain to become active. I would check your control panel to make sure everything is properly setup like your name servers. If you give me access to your account along with the nameservers you needed listed i'd be happy to check it out for you.

the site is http://www.vinagate.com ;) and it's going to be on the same server as my website (in my signature)
IPs: 209.152.168.111 & 209.152.168.112
JSpired 04-03-2005, 02:16 PM See here. (http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=vinagate.com) Are your nameservers registered properly? This will sound lame, but you "saved" the changes after registering, right? And the nameservers were registered already?
SethEffectz 04-03-2005, 02:22 PM I use namecheap for a few domains.. And they seem to be active within a few hours...
not the best customer support for sure i can tell you that... takes a while to respond to emails.
Kerry Jones 04-03-2005, 02:25 PM heres how you register your name servers:
1. Login to NameCheap.
2. Select the domain you want to modify.
3. Enter your ip addresses for NS1 & NS2 and click "Add Nameservers".
4. Click "Domain Name Server Setup" and make sure your Nameserver is NS1.VINAGATE.COM & NS2.VINAGATE.COM.
5. Wait 12 - 24 hours for the domain to propagate.

i'm pretty sure my nameservers are registered properly. I've done many at godaddy ...and namecheap doesn't have many options in control panel like godaddy...so that makes things more easy for me.
Okie let me redo it again ...hopefully my site will go online in a day or less. :(

VinaGal 04-03-2005, 02:46 PM okie...i think everything is set up now...let me wait for a day and see. thanks guys for ur help
ichris 04-03-2005, 02:53 PM With Namecheap.com it only takes a few minutes for the domains to propagate. I just purchased a new domain a few minutes ago (http://chriskelvie.com) and it already propagated.
My guess is you did something incorrectly, maybe on the server side.
Kerry Jones 04-03-2005, 03:05 PM opps, I forgot to mention you need to set it up as "Dynamic DNS".
blue27 04-03-2005, 03:29 PM I have over 80 domains with NameCheap.
I find their customer service to be very good.
I registered a domain today and it was available in less than 5 minutes.
Namecheap have been excellent for me :). 20+ domains.

enetwork 04-03-2005, 07:12 PM Hello VinaGal,
I do show the name pointing to the servers correctly. However, checking the dns report, it shows the servers are not responding:
DNS server ns1.vinagate.com[209.152.168.111] is alive, but not authoritative for domain 'vinagate.com' and didn't return SOA
DNS server ns2.vinagate.com[209.152.168.112] is alive, but not authoritative for domain 'vinagate.com' and didn't return SOA
I would suggest checking on the server side.
freak 04-03-2005, 07:18 PM Anyone is a namecheap.com customer?
Maybe you should ask if anyone is NOT a namecheap.com customer? :D

I used to think namecheap ran their own systems before I uncovered the truth. enom handles everything so if it resolves in minutes thank enom not namecheap. I would not touch namecheap with a 100 foot pole
okie
enetwork 04-03-2005, 09:57 PM Wow, Okieboy is back! It must be springbreak :)
Mikey this way! 04-04-2005, 04:23 PM I have a domain with Namecheap. So, far everything fine. DNS propagation is very quick. Equal to godaddy.
