Hi Everyone,
Would one of the hosting experts in this forum please direct me on how I can monitor the downtime of a website. I have had some recent problems with a website being down. It is hosted by readyhosting.com. I would like to be able to keep track. I have limited understanding on how servers work. I remember seeing somewhere how you can check speed and reliability but I have no clue on how to go about it. Thank you so much in advance.
Mary L.

Internetseer are very good and give daily stats for uptime and monthly percentage.
www.internetseer.com
It is also free. Checks to see if your website is up every 30 mins
Thanks jgriff64.
Just to let you know their privacy policy:
Because InternetSeer derives its revenue mainly from advertising and fee-based services, collecting information is essential to keeping certain of our services free. It is also necessary to assure the relevancy of this advertising to our Subscribers.
Although there may be risk of advertisement exposure, I think this free service is wonderful.

I have been really pleased with Internetseer. Its a good service and they have not spammed me. They do send ads on thier emailed reports. But they HAVE to pay the bills somehow.

A problem with those services is theres nothing really in place to maintain their accuracy

Internetseer is waaay to flakey to be a reliable solution. Our servers go down briefly every night for backups. Some days according to internetseer,a server is down for several hours. Other days, just the 20 minutes during the backup. I continue to use them, because it's free, and it's an added monitoring solution. We have our own internal monitoring systems in place, but that does not help much when the connection is dead outside.
I am working on a new remote monitoring service, but I don't really have the time/$$ to launch it yet. I'll let everyone know when I do :)
