Do a search on unlimited on this forum.

It will give you a good indication.

They started out as a free host and had to start transitioning to paid plans to cover costs. Speed and reliablility has been very spotty for the free customers... I don't know how that translates to their paid plans.

Please don't even consider them. It has been repeated many times here, and i'll do it again. Unlimited web space and/or data transfer isn't possible. Stay away :D

Also they will block you from getting e-mail from certain ISPs without telling you about it.

Avoid them!

I have used crosswinds before (only the free service, though), and it was the most horrible experience I've ever had. The site goes down very often without any explanation, and I've had all my files mysteriously disappear (i.e. completely wiped out) several times. Looking at their pricing, there is *no* way they will be able to handle unlimited bandwidth along with all the space they promise.

Also, another note on their FTP access. I used crosswinds back when they allowed FTP for free users as well, and the server was so frequently down I never ONCE managed to log in. Not sure how well it runs now that they've taken away FTP for free users...

I know the others have said it, but you really oughtta stay away from crosswinds. Too many question marks and frankly, the package they offer is too good to be true.

Maybe he should click the Rules button instead of Search... that post looks pretty spammy to me.

<<MOD NOTE: I'm fairly certain it isn't spam>>

Edit: I didn't mean any false accusations, but a first-time poster putting up a complete feature list of something for sale with a "what do you guys think" at the end is pretty Internet standard for clandestine spamming. The Mods have more information about a particular poster than I do (IP #s, e-mail addresses, etc.) so I will trust their supreme knowledge. :)

I used to get spammed by them awhile back many times. It seemed that any time you'd respond to have your e-mail removed from their list, you'd get ten more e-mails. To me that proves they are weak and should be avoided.

I used their free service last year for a small, special interest site.
Service was not reliable and the server seemed pretty slow. But, hey, you can't really complain about free (you get what you pay for) ;)

Maybe their paid-for service is better...

Just my $0.02,

Are they still around?
I remember them from *way* back in the days when Xoom was brand new and Geocities(pre Yahoo!) was king of the hill. It's one of the few free hosts I never got an account with.

Yes I got exactly the same thing! And the error was something like "we don't accept mail from spammer domain". Heck I never even got ONE freaking spamcop report or spammer on my server then. I think it's crosswinds playing dirty to mess with other hosts on purpose. Screw them.

So after that I started doing the same thing. Any mail that passes to me from them gets a nasty error as well.

Oh talking about them just brings back memories of those days when I first got into web design.

They were one of the first free hosts I have tried and after 2 weeks with them, I gave up and returned to Geocites

The problems I faced was with the FTP which was virtually non-existent. The downtime was atrocious. I think my page was down more than up.
When it was up, the page took so long to load I could go for lunch, be back and still see nothing

Well you know it must have left a really bad impression because I remember it to this day---it's one of the worsts free hosts I've used.

(Of course, "free" now has been redefined but back then it was in its heyday)

I don't know about the service now, perhaps they have improved?
Or perhaps not because even at this moment, crosswinds.net is down.

Maybe they'll treat a paid customer a little better
