If you are having trouble with starting up your business, you should ask specific questions - the parts you're having trouble with... There are decades of experience regarding this topic but it'll be impossible for someone to answer your general question. No, the cheapest and easiest way is to continue on with your reseller account. jodimyatt 04-01-2005, 07:05 PM Sorry John. You are right, basically I have decided to move away from my resellers account. The cost of setting up a datacenter is massive in the UK as bandwitdh cost a fortune. So in order to provide a more cost effective solution to moving away from resellers, would decucated servers be the next step up. alpha 04-01-2005, 07:15 PM Wow, I'm a bit shocked that you are already thinking about setting up a data center. Anyway, yes, I'd say that if you are outgrowing your reseller account and want to spread your wings out a bit more for some more flexibility in your services then leasing a dedicated server would definitely be one of the next steps. Be warned, however, with growth comes more responsibility. Managing a reseller account and managing a dedicated server - there is a very steep (relatively, depending upon your experience) learning curve in between the two. There are many dedicated server providers that can assist you manage your server while others might not. You should visit the Dedicated Servers forum: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=2 A lot of good information about dedicated server providers and other people's experience with running a dedicated server in that forum. I'm also sure others will poke in and give their thoughts on your situation if they feel they have something to contribute. Good luck :) jodimyatt 04-01-2005, 07:52 PM Thank you for your help. Rman2003 04-02-2005, 04:25 AM You may want to consider looking into a VPS/VDS (Virtual Private Server/Virtual Dedicated Servers) before jumping completely into a fully dedicated. This would give you considerably more freedom, but would also give you somewhat of a "cushion" when it came to things such as kernel and software upgrades. Just something to consider I suppose. Not to mention it would be cheaper at this point. jodimyatt 04-02-2005, 09:50 AM I rpiced up a deciated server and it seems like a good deal and i can host my own sites and still have enough free space to make a decent profit. But with regaurds to mysql databases is there a limit i.e license. I will be running plesk with unlimited domian license and redhat. Rman2003 04-02-2005, 02:01 PM If you mean a limit as to how many databases you can use.. no, there is not. But remember, the more active databases you have, the more it's going to effect server performance. |
