Hehe, I think you meant Windows 2000 Server OS. You don't want a noob with Windows 2000 Pro. Pro allows only 1 website to be hosted. Perhaps, you can simply say Windows 2000 host :D

You can get it for $145 OEM, if you're looking to buy a new harddrive, which you might as well, unless you want to pay the $299 regular price. Go to:

I just moved from an NT server (4.0 unlimited license) to Win 2K pro and it's a lot better. I make the point though, that I mean for home use or a network -- not for hosting. I'd not use Windows for a web host, but for personal use, Win 2K pro is the best I've seen and you don't have to deal with all the issues NT offers with it's driver incompatibilities, etc.

I got my copy of Win2000 Pro for free. :D

It's good to friends with illegal software. :stickout

That's intelligent telling every one of the public here that you are using pirated software..

I didn't pay for mine either. Of course, this is the 'Corporation' or whatever edition, that is used for corporate systems and therefore doesn't have a license limit or require any registration numbers to install or use -- and as long as I am technically freelancing for them, it's fine. As soon as I get a new non-Winmodem modem, I'll be using Linux Slackware and FreeBSD for my home system anyway, (and that'll be very soon), so it's not like I'm trying to get away with anything -- but I agree it's probably not too smart to admit you have an illegal copy (then again, I seriously doubt it would result in anything or anyone would try and pursue it, but still).

Microsoft would probably be too busy to persue this, but he has just lost all my respect.

That was what I actually meant, personally I could careless if Microsoft would fall off the earth, but he is running some sort of business from his website (design I think) and who knows what other illegal software he uses to do his work that you pay for..

BTW Just FYI if you purchase something that was made with pirated software you are held liable as well even though you may not have known about it.. That why the legal jargon needs to be in writing to protect yourself..

What started out to be a simple question about Windows 2000 Pro turns into a mud-slinging contest. Did anyone even answer his question?

Anyway, maybe it's about time this thread was moved to the lounge. :)
