Anyone knows any good free control panel for free hosting? i dont mean reselling or anything like that. I mean software that will provide registration screen, and managable control panel for my users, while on server it will adduser, set its quota and stuff like that.

i tried VHCS but it seems like a tool for resellers... and i want to run a free hosting server (will pay for it with ads im planing to show on people's pages)

Maybe this VHCS is also for free hosting? but i couldnt find any registration screen or even automatic way to add users (only way is thru admin -> reseller and then he can manually add user)

And Webmin seems too ugly for end users. I rather mean Usermin becouse Webmin seems like a tool for admins. And Usermin doesnt have features like managing your domain or stuff like that i think.

I have also read about web-cp but it is also tool for resellers?

The only intresting thing i've found is WHT which i think has registration screen and stuff like that - but it doesnt have ANY graphics and is difficult to use for end user.

P.S. I dont need tool to manage server, i like to manage it just thru ssh, i just need bunch of scripts that will automatically do some stuff when user wants to create his account.

P.S. i've also heard about projects on hotscripts.com or Genesis, but those seems really not much useful im afraid :( the funcionality is pretty low.

I guess i could pay money for it, but even then - is there any Good system that will provide signup pages, control panel for users, ability to add my ads to users pages and stuff like that?

some days ago I ran into smart CP for hosting.
Looking for it there: http://web-cp.net/

I have detailed setup instructions for installing web-cp and supporting software ( Apache, ProFTP, PHP, MySQL, Dovecot, Squirrelmail, BIND, Sendmail, MRTG, Webalizer and OpenSSL ) at : http://hostinghacks.net . The redhat instructions ( http://redhat.hostinghacks.net ) are a couple of months behindbut the slackware instructions are pretty much up to date ( http://slackware.hostinghacks.net ). Nothing for Debian yet. I'm still waiting for someone to volunteer. :)

is it suitable for free web hosting ? Does it have automatic user creation scripts and stuff like that?

Well, let me ask you this: how do you envision a control panel for free hosting and a control panel for paid hosting being different? Do you mean adding in banner ads or something? that would probably be handled at the apache level rather than the cp.

but yes it can add users ; perform most/all typical cp duties and is quite feature rich in general and getting more so with each release.

You may want to try DTC at:

freshmeat.net/projects/dtc

i mean, maybe it has already-made page templates with php script or something, that will communicate with cp on server and let the user to automatically create his login/verify by mail and stuff like that. ( so i dont have to be 24h/day and add users manually :) )

as to ads, i can indeed add it on apache level or in .htaccess or anything, so the only problem is automatic user creation/verification (by clicking on mail) system

I think I understand now. You want a completely hands off approach to adding users. I don't think web-cp would match this criteria unless you have some competency with php and are willing to get your hands dirty.

Thanks for the updated link. I have added it to my accumulated links of the GPL control panels that I am aware of @ http://hostinghacks.net/faq/ ( actually it was there before but it was previously linked to : http://www.gplhost.com/?rub=softwares&sousrub=dtc which is kind of long and not very aesthetic).

you can put ads on your user pages

I have found a free hosting website called, cybertechhost.com.

They are giving Cpanel too. I got my free account instantly activated in 2 minutes . good service.... They also provide fantastico, rvsitebuilder, softaculous etc... and a free suddomain too....

try it friends...

I'll recommend two panels that I have used and find capable:

DTC: http://www.gplhost.com/software-dtc.html

and

ISPConfig: http://www.ispconfig.org/ispconfig-3/

They're both impressive.

Since free hosting is not really different from paid hosting, you could set up $0 "hosting plans" or just ignore the more advanced features (resellers, etc.) aimed at commercial users. Either would do the task just fine and looking at both will give you some ideas of different design approaches/decisions made in creating a hosting panel.

Virtualmin / Webmin are great, and open source. Long rich history, it just works.
