Does anybody use any type of open source software to run their hosting business?

Software like accounting, billing, and monitoring. Or any open source applications to implement in a web site like portals, or content management.

Basically what type of open source applications are being used by the resellers in this forum?

Thanks for your help.

yes. infact most hosts (yup even WHT is powered by it!) use a open source web server called apache.

I think that you are right, thats why he posted it in the running a web hosting biz forum ;)

I'm not sure of the answer though. It seems to me that there aren't alot of open source software for specific businesses yet, as the open source movement is still concentrating on major projects that benifit the largest number of people, while letting the smaller projects that are more specific to make their living off. For example, most of PHP engine developers make their living by writing PHP programs (or PHP encoders, IDE's, .. etc).

Your Are Right Ahmad.

If anybody out there is using open source applications (any kind), please list them.

This will help me see which ones are the most widely used.

Thanks

I'm sorry, I forgot to say that there is a list of commercial and open source control panels in the "Hosting Software and Control Panels" forum.
