where does one draw the line?? I have to track where my scripts are being installed, to avoid piracy... but this also intrudes into the installers privacy... so where does one draw the line?? how does one distinguish between the two?

Well I am sure you will get mixed opinions on this one, however I personally feel you should have the right to make sure you're getting paid for your script and it is not being used without purchasing it. I personally have no problems with call homes as long as they are not collecting data. If it is a simple check for a license key, IP or domain name that is fine in my eyes however when it starts pulling other info thats when I would have to draw the line.

Depending on how intend to impliment and what type of tracking you plan on using, your efforts may very well be pointless as any outgoing request can be tracked and logged as they pass through a firewall, thus setting off a red light to any would be script pirate that there is a call home imbedded somewhere in the script. With this info you can bet they will hack the code and remove this feature before distributing it. Of course if you encrypt the code this makes their job extremely difficult.
