I should have known better than going with vdi , this is frustating. Where do you host your server dektong ?

I host several servers at VDI ... I think VDI is not down (you can still access VDI.net, right), but I do believe somehow some IPs are not responding outside VDI. For example, I have several IPs on one server, but 2 of my IPs (that I have checked) can't be pinged from my other server at NAC. Hence, the site hosted on those IPs are down also. I have used different IPs for those sites, but unfortunately it will take time for the DNS to refresh.

This is not the first time it has happened, it has happened at least 3 times. The last time the problem only occurs for ... 5 minutes and everything went to normal after that, but not sure how long it will take this time. Could it be that some IPs are dropped from VDI's main router? I don't know ...

My suggestion, try to find whether you have any IPs (not your main IP but perharps other IPs bound to your ethernet card)responding at all. If you do, then try to SSH/Telnet into your server using any of those IPs. Good luck ...

Now these IPs are back up again ... I am pretty sure you would find your server are up and running as normal.

As much as sometimes I am frustated with VDI's downtime, I still have a big faith in VDI that they will one day improve everything and have one of the best network around. I will keep my hope alive as long as I can :)

Anyway, do anybody know why sometimes some of these IPs are suddenly 'lost' while all other IPs (even the next IP in the sequence, like x.x.x.x and x.x.x.x+1) are up? I would love to know the reason.

cheers,

We have IPs on different subnets, some stayed up, others went down resulting in that some customers sites went down.

I certainly hope VDI can build one of the best networks around...

different subnet may be understandable, but what I am wonderring is how come two IPs that stand next to each other (for example, 1.2.3.4 and 1.2.3.5) can have problem with one being "lost" to the outside world whereas the other is still up?

Yea ... Best wishes to VDI

The OC12 is coming in from AT&T now, not Verizon.

Woah, where did you hear that? It would be nice if they updated there web site or news area once in a while. The last update was Sept 1.

I have exactly that problem now, .26 working and .27 down :?

.26: bytes=32 time=190ms TTL=237
--
.27: Request timed out.

Won't they still have the problems related to only having one connection still when they get the OC12 installed? Or are they keeping the Level3 OC3 running into the facility on fiber from a separate company? That would be the only way I could see VDI getting back to having sufficient redundancy.

Lats has his sites with us - the server he is on is in VDI.

I hope Lats doesn't mind me saying this ;)
