I currently have the traditional type of freebsd virtual servers that cost around $165/month each, but which only provide around 1GB of space. I can host multiple domains on them, but I dont really have full root access.

These days, there are numerous companies that are offering Virtual Dedicated servers that offer much more in terms of space and options, but at half the cost of not less. I am not talking of the small players. Even large companies such as superb.net are offering pretty good deals on VDSs.

Well, prices are dropping, and new packages have more disk space and resources than ever.

I'd bet that the only thing that you'll lose is the time that it takes you to transition.

$165/month? Shoot...get yourself a dedicated server. :)

Could I really get a good deal on a ded server for $200/mo?
I have seen a number of offers for around that much, but what about data back up, for example if the hard drive crashes?
