View Full Version : Upgrading to PHP 4.1.2 - Read please
Franki 03-06-2002, 09:02 AM Hello. I want to upgrade my PHP version to 4.1.2. To do so, I read that I must have installed OS Update 2.0. I went to the official cobalt site to install this udpate, but I saw that I must install some updates. The updates that I haven't done already are:
RaQ4-All-Security-1.0.1-10602 (Apache Update)
RaQ4-All-Kernel-1.0.1-2.216C28III (Kernel Update)
So, I must firstly install these two updates, then I must install OS Update 2.0 and then install PHP 4.1.2. I'm afraid to do kernel updates, I'm thinking about crashing the server! Could anyone tell me if these updates are safe? Do I have to do anything special in order not to have problems? What about ASP? I read that there might be problems when you install the Apache Update.
Your help would be very important! Thank you.
kmurrey 03-06-2002, 10:32 AM I have installed these patches and have not had any problems. There are usually 'special instructions' for each patch if it has any.

JCella 03-06-2002, 11:49 AM Do them in this order
Security: Dos Attack Update 1.0.2
Update: Reverse delegation 1.0.1
Security: Apache Update 1.0.1
Update: Kernel Update 1.0.1
OS Update 2.0
PHP 4.1.2
I have had no problems with it.
thinkcomp 03-06-2002, 06:05 PM Cobalt has a tendency to release patches pre-maturely sometimes, but customers quickly inform them of issues, and then problems are resolved soon after. So, if the patches have been on the update site for more than a week, I would say that it's safe to install them. Of course, that doesn't guarantee that they'll work perfectly with your particular setup. If you have problems, there's always the forums, both at Sun and here.
Good luck!

You can install PHP 4.1.2 from pkgmaster.com without having the OS-Update for the RaQ4 installed. It works fine.

sounds like they provided it before though ....
cyrusTvirus 03-13-2002, 05:34 AM Sun always stated that the software supplied there was/is without any warranties....
Why no compyling php from source gives you much more flexibilty then using a pkg php file when somthing happens (like a security flaw) you have to wait until a new pkg is released, which can only be done when php launches a new version, waiting will give other people the chance to exploit the flaw which was found....
Compiling from source is easy. Contact me if you need help.
