First, I'm an end user. I'm not looking to install/set up a system and re-sell to others/support others/etc. I want a turnkey solution that I can have access to the instant my account is activated.
I've been looking for a host for a mailing list. It's hard to get a good feel of their particular configuration of the different control panels prior to establishing an account, so I've really had to jump in, and have disappointed with what I've found thusfar.
I'm looking for something similar to this demo of Cpanel (http://66.78.21.26:2082/frontend/iconic/mail/lists.html). It looks easy enough, yet is extremely powerful.
Am I expecting too much in wanting something similar out of a host?

Yes...I realize that the demo does work...but what I am saying is that I am expecting a host to provide such a control panel (perhaps not exactly CPanel) and 'turnkey' Mailing List program.
Am I expecting too much?
(When I was saying that I couldn't try out the control panel before activation, I was referring to other hosts - IE, I find XXXXXXhost.com, and they say they offer mailing lists, but I can't try out their CP/mailing list software prior to activation.)
Another frustrating thing is that not all hosts use the same/all of the features on the same (IE CPanel) software.
Basically, I want to set up a list (list@mydomain.com), set up certain paramaters (plain text only, messages less than 5kb, no attachments), and have an automatic opt-in subscribe/unsubscribe feature (ala ListServ/Majordomo).
Am I expecting too much?

It would be foolish to offer mailing list on trial accounts. Even on activated full account, a spammer can make a lot of trouble.

I'm not trying to get into a demo, or get free access to a trial mailing list, or whatever.....
I'm wondering if I my expectations are too high for a host that I can activate an account with (pay), and immediately have the mailing list functionality that I'm looking for...or if I should expect to have to install/load/configure the software myself.

well, i guess you could always try emailing the host you have found and ask them if you can try out the mail prog on their CP.

Hi Pablo,
I could have the mailing list set up for you tonight if you like.
It would use mySQL and our own SMTP server to send out the messages and a subscription page so that users could add/drop their e-mail address.
You would have control over the layout of the mail also.
If you wanted to make sure you are getting what you require we could also work something out so you pay after you have tested it.
Please PM me.

pip235,
Thank you very much for the offer. Earlier today, I found a host with majordomo and a web interface that has been very helpful in establishing a test account. I'm going to give them a try, but will keep your address should it not meet my needs.
