Hi, i'm in the process of setting up my own web hosting service and while i've decided to stick with paypal for processing the payments until it's off the ground i need a good shopping cart. i was considering oscommerce but was wondering what your views are.
and also is there any cart software specifically designed for selling web hosting to make it easier setting up?
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forums. Personally, I would never recommend OSCommerce to sell web hosting services. You should use a program such as ModernBill, ClientExec, WHMAP, Whois.Cart, etc. which are all specifically built for selling such a product.

Modernbill is working great for us. It's a bit of a pain to get configured, so I recomend having them install and configure it. We must have reinstalled it three times before having them do it. Modernbill is a VERY full featured billing program for any size hosting environment. We looked at some of the other software out there, none of it compared to moderbill as far as bang for your buck. We tested Rodopi, which costs around 10k, and they want to charge you monthly after that, per 1000 domains or something like that. We thought it was a little ridiculous for a piece of software that has to run on Microsoft Sql. When you're out there hunting, make sure the creation utilities work for your control panel, this is very important, as you won't be able to automate without them. We were running all ensim servers when we decided to go with modernbill, and at the time, they couldn't get the automation process working, so we had to switch to plesk, which hasn't been any better or worse than ensim. A control panel is a control panel. They all have problems, and require alot of babysitting once you have a few hundred domains on them. Not to say my playstation gets neglected because of constant support calls. Good luck getting set up, I don't regret my decision to get into hosting, and if you plan it right, you wont either. We're a few thousand strong now, and growing every day.

If you are looking to sell hosting - there is really only 1 solution that offers everything you need in 1 clean, simple package - and thats H-Sphere...
There are advantages of going modular - as far as receiving specific functionality - however, overall, your total cost of ownership and your headaches, will be reduced with an integrated package like H-Sphere...

you can have our hsphere servers...no headaches...until you use them. I guess it's just what you get used to. I didn't like the hsphere interface at all, I think I would have had better luck with webmin and one of those credit card imprint machines. The freakin think was indestructable though, I'll give you that.
On a side note, I have a couple of mambo questions...think I'll start a new thread.
good luck
