View Full Version : GoDaddy - Anyone with experience of it?
TheSpecial 03-06-2002, 05:27 AM Hi,
Is is really 8,95$ without extra costs? (Paying money to other organisations, setup fees, transfer costs or something like that).
Anyone experience with it? Tell me.
AlaskanWolf 03-06-2002, 05:33 AM yah its true, great service they have provided us for the last 12 months
we use them as a reseller, http://verycheapdomains.net is where we direct all our customers to register their domains
hostjet 03-06-2002, 07:12 AM godaddy are actually a good choice, however they do charge for a lot of there extras that are offered free at some other places.
Host Visions 03-06-2002, 10:26 AM We had a bit of a nasty experience with them the other day (this is just a FYI), as a customer requested a domain transfer which we did, then godaddy emailed them directly about clicking on a link on their site to activate the transfer. Needless to say, the customer wasn't a happy camper when they clicked on the site, and there was Godaddy's banner for domain registrations at $8.95 a year (we charge $12.95).
So, looking at OpenSRS now!
Incognito 03-06-2002, 02:55 PM That is the reason I would never consider Godaddy. They spam your customers, they advertise prices within $1 of what you pay, they make absolutely no effort to protect you, the reseller. Frankly, I see them as excellent marketers, but also opportunists who do not have any concern in protecting their resellers. Also, their service level is up and down and some have had problems with goddaddy transfers.
Just too big a philosophical problem with how they conduct business. Although, I could save with them, I just am not willing to compromise on such basic principles. And, in my business, I do practice what I preach. I go to tremendous lengths to protect my resellers and stay unknown and in the background.
freakysid 03-06-2002, 03:29 PM I have used godaddy for a few domains. I don't any longer because I am now a enom reseller. As for any customer being unhappy that godaddy is cheaper, well that may not stack up in most cases. As has already been pointed out, godaddy provides absolutely nothing extra for free (except "parking" your domain so that it points to a page that advertises them). DNS hosting, forwarding, everything else is extra. So it is quite simple to justify your price to your client if you provide them with DNS hosting - just go and check out how much godaddy charge extra for DNS hosting.
dreamlegacy 03-06-2002, 11:16 PM Ive used Stargate.com $8.95 yearly with url fowarding. Just dont forget to add the two dns server numbers...Some people complain about not being able to foward url but in some cases it is because they didnt scroll down to see that the dns #'s were needed.

TheSpecial 03-07-2002, 04:36 AM My webserver provides Nameservers so I don't need anything else, or am I wrong?
I personally like GoDaddy. It has good support and the domains are cheap. Spamming isn't that annoying, there is a delete all button ;)
akashik 03-08-2002, 05:10 AM I use them for a few domains of mine, but I wouldn't put an 'mission critical' domains under their services. Hard to put my finger on, but something just feels odd about their services. (Yeah I know, hardly scientific). I've also had the junkmail from them too, once promoting hosting if I remember rightly...

Filia 03-08-2002, 12:34 PM I original used domainmonger.com, but I've switched to godaddy.com now.
They are pretty fair. Not too slow about changing DNS information.
Oh and, Host Visions, :P that's why, as a domain whore, I've learned never to purchase a domain from my webhost. I hate the inability to be incontrol of my domain's information, and you always end up paying more when you purchase from a webhost. If you think it's cheap with a webhost, there is always some register out there cheaper. I gotta love phpwebhosting.com for requiring me to register my domains because they won't do it for me, got me away from expecting my webhost to do that. :P
Mester 03-08-2002, 11:16 PM Pay an extra 3c/year and go with www.powerpipe.com (Acutally, dont listen to me as I have no experience with godaddy). But powerpipe (eNom reseller) is great, no spam, etc :D
i prefer stargate but many of my friend are happy with godaddy.

Ahmad 03-09-2002, 03:24 PM I'm using them for most of my domains, and still transfering all my domains to them. I don't use extra service, so I'm doing good with them. The basic services are very easy to use.
Regarding their *spam*, I believe that there are three options in the last step (or the step before maybe?) regarding recieving promotions.
