View Full Version : Any Suggestions for a registrar ?
NetGeek 03-06-2002, 01:14 AM Hi there
I would like to ask what is the best Domain registrar in term of:
- Price
- Customer Services
- Reseller (which I am :D)
- Integration (My site with their's)
Best regards
hostjet 03-06-2002, 04:30 AM i use enom.com and i am quite happy with their service, i would definitely add them to your list of prospective registrars.
ivaninch 03-06-2002, 09:58 PM Dotster instant reseller is worth a look
lgibsonusa 03-07-2002, 06:51 PM I like BulkRegister. Even with the membership fee - the control panel is easy to use - and clean - not a ton of banners, etc. Also, they do NOT compete with my customers and their service is pretty good. And no charges for domain and nameserver changes. Check them out!
akashik 03-08-2002, 05:07 AM I don't think their reseller program gets you much, but I've always used Dotster for my domain registrations and found them to be top notch as far as professionalism goes.

Groundhog 03-08-2002, 07:32 PM Agree that Dotster is a good choice. Just tried stargate and can't get any help or a response for that matter. I am looking to transfer soon. Just wanted to test them out since they are so cheap. I will look at others but I have had dotster for years. Now that I am getting into hosting I am now starting to understand the importance of the support side as well. If you are going to have clients wanting to know what's going on I would recommend them. Cheap isn't always better as well all know.
Strongly recommend you:
stargate
dotster

Tazzman 03-09-2002, 10:07 PM Dotster is good, also would like to add 000domains.com to the list, they have excellent customer support and they're an openSRS reseller...
jmcmike 03-10-2002, 08:40 AM I'll have to second hostjet's reply. I investigated and tried out Dotster and OpenSRS and looked at many others. What I found is that if you're looking to resell domains with value added services, eNom is the way to go.
Although they do require some upfront money ($495 minimum) what you get is downright awsome. Every domain you resell comes with DNS, Parking, Web and Email forwarding. If you use their Registry Rocket interface you can give your clients access to the growing list of extras as well. All this comes in at $8.95/domain year your cost.
Inegration is flexible. You can use their API and integrate to your heart's content or use their Registry Rocket interface (includes CC processing) and live with the layout. I chose the latter and built my site around the Rocket's theme.
Sure there are cheaper routes but not with these features.
Incognito 03-10-2002, 10:11 AM I continue to recommend these 2. And, yes, I have used many of the others as I regularly purchase domains that are listed at the others, most of which I transfer to Dotster.
OpenSRS, in my opinion, remains the best. All transactions are smooth. I have never had a single problem. While their prices aren't the best, they are quite reasonable at $10. The only negatives are: (1) you have to pay them and collect from your customer, (2) require upfront deposit.
As to Dotster, they are my primary registrar. The $12 price may seem high, but their reseller system is so easy to set up, propogation is quick, and I really can say little about their customer service as I have never had to use it even though I have hundreds of sign-ups through them. The credit card is processed through them, so I have no worry about fraud, collection, processing fees or anything else. Also, as I have multiple hosting companies, it is easy to sign each up with them (sign-up is free) and all can have their own custom pages. Propogation has been incredibly fast as of late. Nameserver set up is easy. So, could I do better in price-absolutely. Could I have an easier, more stable, more effective system-I don't think so.
Some of the others may be ok, but I have found many of them are very difficult, if not costly on transfers, slow on name servers or even fail to communicate them to Netsol, advertise heavily and even spam to your customers, not protecting your interests at all.
imago-allan 03-10-2002, 10:36 AM Hi!
I seem not to experience the ones you have. Have you tried using their support ticket?
:)

bellgamin 03-12-2002, 03:30 AM gandi.net -- IMHO, the best of the 7 registrars I now use. No contest.
Aloha from Hawaii,
Bellgamin
I use 000domains.com, registerfly.com and stargateinc.com. They are all cheap and nice but I prefer 000domains.com.
Take a look into this "registrydomains.com" and give me your opinion.
Thanks

Everyday 03-13-2002, 02:56 PM mrregistrar.com
Great interface, easy to configure and great prices. Good support too.
cgiGeek 03-22-2002, 10:00 PM You cannot go wrong with OpenSRS or domain direct.
DNS sys rocks.

ArixHost 03-23-2002, 12:36 PM Hi,
I recommend http://www.gandi.net & DirectNIC (http://www.directnic.com)
markblair 03-23-2002, 04:55 PM My choice would be Dotster or 000domains. I currently use Dotster and have used Stargate but will never go back due to extremely terrible customer service and support.
mrregistrar.com is a reseller from itsyourdomain.com
Dargar 05-03-2002, 07:49 AM One of the things I don't like about the enom and some of the others listed on this thread is that they don't allow you to change the color and customize it for your site. Is there one out there that will allow better integration your site? Or I am missing something?
-Darren
Chicken 05-03-2002, 01:48 PM Dangar, well, if you load the API on your site, then you have a bit more play, but yes, with direct linking there's no customization at all. Itsyourdomain might give you a bit more in the way of customization.
