Ok, after reading a few posts, I seem to be getting the impression that a lot of you don't like donhost.
I've been with them for about 4 months, and so far the only probs I've had was 1 person making use of an empty account (which I was the only person that knew the P/word which looked bad on donhost), and [2] one of my users accounts was wiped (though he did later admit to me that he used to hack his school's network, so god only knows what scripts/files he'd uploaded) so it's possible that they felt it necessary to remove his account.
I never got a email from them explaining why though....
How many of you have had problems with donhost?
How many of you are just telling me what you've "heard from someone" ?
How many of you have the first hand experience to know?
Please give me as much help as possible so that I can decide whether to find another host.
Thanks

My Pro's and Con's with DonHost
Pro's
Cheap
1. Fast Tech support
2. Easy Account set up
3. As long as you stick to AUP everything is fine
4. shared SSL etc is good
Con's
1. They claim unlimited diskspace, this is not possible
2. Tech support is sometimes a little rude
3. They have been known to close your account when u reach 20 Gig bandwidth, altho i am not using this much yet.
4. They have a bit of a bad rep for closing accounts
I have been with them a lil while now and they have closed one account which was for a reason, they sorted problems quickly (please dont quote my I hate donhost post to me)
They are good for beginners and have a good amount of bandwidth.
I now use another company as well with Plesk for more professional hosting

So where does that leave donhost if they offer 50GB of bandwidth? - they could be taken to court for closing your account for that couldn't they???

Last year I had one of my sites hosted on Donhost. While reliability seemed okay, their servers seemed really slow. And their POP email was hit or miss. Eventually, one day my site simply disappeared and the reseller told me that Donhost had closed his reseller account without warning for exceeding their resource limit. I don't know the whole story - but for me it really sucked.
So that's when I decided to look into reselling on my own... I just signed up with Splashhost and I have to say that Alan's new servers are much, much faster than what I experienced with Donhost. Support has also been phenomenal. If reliability is equally as good, I'll be a happy man.
Just my $0.02

Even if you do stick with the AUP, they still try to come up with pathetic excuses to close accounts, and they close accounts without warning. This is first hand experience.

Well its time for my 2 cents worth.
For a beginner it is a great place to start, when you actually get some clients and are getting cash for it then look towards getting your own server even if it is with them.
I have been slated for having a dig at them and yes it put me in a bad light however the control panel alone is worth the hassle.
Start there, keep your accounts in order, ask here for help not there and you would be fine.
Oh and read and reread the aup and get your clients to do likewise and you might just get somewhere.

Bottom line, you can get better, more polite, more reliable, less volatile and cheaper service as well as better communication from other companies...
Personally I wouldn't waste your time or stress level with Donhost. (My own experiences are well documented so feel free to take a look around using search)
