They sent me this today:

This email is being sent to inform you that an attempt to charge your credit card 39.95 failed.
For up to the minute information about your account, please log into:
http://billing.kikko.com
If you have any other questions please email support@kikko.com
Thank you.

Nice try, considering the account they are trying to charge me for was cancelled 4 weeks ago and no more payments were due. Just lucky they failed in charging my card, don't ask me why it failed, just happy it did :stickout

Probably because the other 20 - $39.95 charges that they charged on your credit card went through........ :D

Does Kikko have a bad name on these forums?

Does Kikko have a bad name on these forums?

See that little button named 'search'? ;)
And the answer is a big yes by the way. I've only encountered other people here complaining about awfull customer service and payments being requested months after accounts have been cancelled etc. I cancelled my account because 4 days after I opened it, it went down, and stayed down for nearly a week. Couldn't get in touch with their support department. When they finally got my account back up (took them 7 days to contact me) they just said sorry. I told them that wasn't good enough and wanted to cancel my account. They actually wanted to know why I wanted to cancel, but in the end they just said: fine, but we have a no refund policy !!!

Actually,

I know first hand thier operation as we considered purchasing Kikko. But they had toooo many problems to make it worth it. What I will never forget is 1 U servers sagging under their own weight without any bolts in those racks at Globix. An absolutely pathetic set up run by amatures who could not get out of the way of their own shadow.

I have been thinking about going for a chargeback. Think I should try it? Would get me my $80 back I payed for 4 days of worthless hosting. I do have emails in which they admit the downtime was real and was their fault. I just don't want any laywers or collecting agencies after me...

Well,

If you didn't sign anything with them, then you pretty much have them if you want to do it.

I apply the following criteria in making this decision though:

1. Did you get the services that you paid for during the period that you contracted for.

2. If the answer to No 1 is no, then did the merchant make an attempt to make things right with you by either providing the service or a refund or other compensation.

3. Did you make a sincere attempt to get things right with the merchant and give them an opportunity to compensate you before charging back.

It's easy to screw others with the charge back system. Make sure that you have applied the same ethics to yourself that you are applying to the merchant.

1. Did you get the services that you paid for during the period that you contracted for.

I payed for 1 month. Server was down for 6 - 7 days, and long periods (hours at a time) in the days before it went down. That's less than 80% uptime. Considering they offer a 99.9% uptime guarantee...

Our main data centers at Kikko Networks run from state-of-the-art facilities located in New York City,

Each site hosted and managed on our infrastructure receive these outstanding benefits: Monitoring and troubleshooting of your server. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Multiple OC-3, OC-12, and OC-48 connections to the Internet backbone for uninterrupted bandwidth.

Our data centers have connections to many different Internet backbones including QWEST, IDT, MCI, GLOBIX, SPRINT, UUNET, (six of the top ten internet backbones). We also have several backup T3 connections. 99.9% Network Uptime Uninterruptible Power Supply External Generator back-up.

If one of the backbones we connect to experiences problems, we can simply choose to re-route that traffic over other paths, thereby ensuring that users receive fast access times to sites hosted on our network.

2. If the answer to No 1 is no, then did the merchant make an attempt to make things right with you by either providing the service or a refund or other compensation.

Kikko made things right by, after 6 days of me sending them emails and support tickets (most of the support tickets were sent back to me as they were unanswered for over 48 hours) just setting up a new account on a different server, meaning I lost everything. Nothing was said about any backups. No (partial) refund was offered. No other compensation was offered. I asked about a (partial) refund or other compensation more than once before telling them I wanted to cancel my account.

3. Did you make a sincere attempt to get things right with the merchant and give them an opportunity to compensate you before charging back.

See above. I didn't just tell them to go f*ck themselves. I did my utmust best to restore my relationship with kikko, but they just didn't seem to care. All I could get out of them was an email apoligising for the problems and saying it wouldn't happen again. Keep in mind this email was received 7 days after I first reported my site was down. When I started telling them I might cancel my account, all I got was:

Message 1:

im sorry michael that you feel that way

my understanding is that the account is up fine and works....

sorry about that...

if you want to cancel then go ahead and i will cancel it...

Message 2:

ok no problem

thank you

and please let me remind you Kikko has a no refund policy.

we apoligize.

And they sent me this, which clearly states they admit the problem was on their side and not on mine:

HI MICHAEL

i have found the problem and i truly apoligize

the server is now fast

there was a sever corruption where another server somehow pulled that ip
address from you

your new account information is below i apoligize, and this will never
happen again

sorry

Funny how they give a 99.9% uptime guarantee, and don't offer any refunds, even considering my site had less than 80% uptime during the month I hosted it with kikko. I heared they had more downtime about a week after I cancelled on many accounts.

Well if it were me,

I'd be doing the chargeback route. But that is me. I can not advise you as to how to proceed.
