I been with Matrixreseller(Vortech reseller) for over 2 years on their hsphere and cpanel. They recently notified us that they wont continue cpanel and since Friday night, sites have been down for over 12 hours. i'm sure they are fixing it and i'm concern about it..
Is cpanel that bad? I dont know any other reseller is doing it? is cpanel that bad..

cPanel isn't bad I imagine there is another reason why they're discontinueing their cPanel side of hosting. I'd ask them why they are stopping their cPanel side of hosting.

You know.... I just signed up for them 3wks ago myself and while I've been very satisfied with the support and treatment I have received thus far, I really don't think I want to move away from cPanel and I really dislike the looks of H-Sphere.

The recent downtime is also unacceptable.

I'm just not buying that cPanel is that insecure. It is a massive piece of software that is pretty much industry-standard and very well supported and maintained, from my understanding. I don't doubt that it has some flaws -- all software has some flaws, but I don't see how cPanel is "bad enough" or so insecure as to justify no longer selling it.

They are the only host I've seen that has ever really entertained that thought.

thats my concern, a well known company like matrix/vortech cant just give up a big piece of software because they cant handle it.

Cpanel is a great web hosting control panel, there's a reason it's the most popular and most used control panel on the market :)

Matrixreseller decided they weren't going to support cPanel anymore and just pulled your website offline? I'm not sure how they're planning to do the switch over to another control panel, but it will certainly take a lot of work.

No, they didn't pull anything offline. The servers have been down for a while, they claim it was hacked because of cPanel's vast insecurities, though they haven't stated what those are, toher than that they were running an old version of BIND. Last I checked, BIND was not cPanel, it was BIND. Now they want everyone who has cPanel accounts to migrate to H-Sphere.

The trusting, good-natured part of me wants to believe that this is an ill-timed coincidence. The sick, twisted part of me wonders if this downtime due to "cPanels' vast insecurities" might just be a way for them to motivate folks to switch to H-Sphere.

If they want to switch to cpanel why did they get it first time, its not even a year since they moved it to cpanel.
Problem is sites have been down for 2 days and vortech is not fixing it.. I'm a loyal customer, have been using the site for last 3 years.. I never like hsphere.. though I have an account and I use it for some of my clients..

Just another 2cents worth from me...

If cPanel was really that insecure and etc, then I would tell you that a lot of clients and a lot of hosting companies are in BIG trouble as their main control panel is cPanel.

Another thing is, if cPanel is really that unsecure, then why/how could they actually become one of the most successful and most known hosting control panel around?

Doesn't it just makes you wonder? If such things ever is true, then a lot of WebHosts out there are in trouble... including me. YIKES!!!!

I agree with you.. if Vortech cant handle Cpanel its their tech lack of knowledge or dont want trouble..

I think vortech/matrix have alot experience with H-SPHERE and freebsd

but in Cpanel/linux not yet .....

in the pass he try to use cpanel over freebsd = some problems them use linux !!!

now down cPANEL = have many problems

cPANEL its OK and popular control panel use by many host without problems

In my personal opinion vortech try to get costumer by hosting with cPANEL but don`t have experience

I know vortech its serius company, very good hosting with H-SPHERE

not critical anything, sometime services/products result with problems inside any company!!!

THe best its turn to right away

We have been using CPanel for about 3 to 4 years we know Linux very well, but we have just seen way to many issues with CPanel, it also does not scale like H-Sphere does and just has way to many bugs for our liking.

We are not shutting people off, but we have seen 2 bugs now that cases 3 of our systems be hacked and there was no warning from CPanel about it. That is what really killed it for us.

We are also not just kicking everyone out the door, we offered every one a free month to move over to our H-Sphere system if they want to if not they have time to look for another provider if thats what they need. We want to be able to provide a reliable service and it just does not seem to be able to happen in CPanel any longer. Yes we are a lot more comfortable with FreeBSD simply because most of our techs love it and use it every day in our H-Sphere cluster. If CPanel was stable on FreeBSD it might be another story but we tried that about 1 to 2 years ago and it was just very bad.

This is also not about successful CP or most known hosting. This is about:
1. How unstable it is.
2. Un scalable it is.
3. How insecure it is. ( one of the bugs we were hacked by was the insecure bind version CPanel ran, and there was no notice about it at ALL that came up in the CP like every other notice. )
4. It has to run on linux and who wants that when you have FreeBSD that works 100x better.
5. Billing for us is a lot easier under H-Sphere than it will ever be under CPanel and ModernBill.
6. Much easier for customers to upgrade and downgrade there plans as needed in H-Sphere.

This is just a short list of things, I don't hate CPanel at all don't get us wrong. I really just does not fit or work with what we are trying to do any more and it being so insecure just tops it off along with it's long list of bugs and it's very bad history of bugs over the years and no one can say that it's history has been a good one with bugs and fixes.

We are doing everything we can to make our customers happy and giving them a quality servers is something very high on our list and CPanel just is not cutting it for us, bottom line.
