My Raq 550 is acting strange. My email services (SMTP, POP, IMAP) just turn themselves off. The server is still running fine etc., but not the email. You cannot restart the service until you reboot. Then the email runs fine for a time and then shuts off again. What would cause this? My techs are looking at everything. My firewall is solid, no major spamming etc. We are at a loss. Any ideas would eb appreciated.

A side note. My system was acting like it was out of memory, shutting down the email, then the site admin and then the websites. This has stopped for the most part and now the above is taking place. I have 1gb of memory. We have not found any scripts running amuck or anything like that.

ANother strange occurance on my RAQ. While the POP service is down, you cannot reotely access your email boxes, but the Raq will still accept and forward email to an alternative box durin the pop outage. Is this mornal and does anyone have an idea what is wrong with my RAQ?

The raqs under a heavy server load will shutdown email services. You may want to take a look at the server logs.

Thank's for the info...what could cause such a heavy server load? I know my CPU isn't showing any extreme load at the time.

It would be the CPU that would shut that down. If your CPU is not running at high loads. Then did you check if you have an high number of sendmail process open? Did you check your sever logs?

Try this command
ps aux

This will show what processes are running. From this you can tell if sendmail is actually shutting down or just rejecting connections due to high number of connections or processor loading.

If it is not running check your logs to see when it stopped working, there should be some indication of what is happening.

Do you have spamassassin running? If so this can cause loading problems if a number of your clients have lots of incoming email or some of your clients are over quota.
