Hey,

I found a place where you can order free .info domains:
https://www.mydomain.com.au/modules/register/register_info.php

Have Fun =)

I thought that promotion was over last year?! Anyone tried registering from them?

Is there a catch? how much do they charge after a year?

They don't take any payment information at all. I just signed up for one, and it says that the staff will look it over before it gets registered. I'll post back with any progress.

yeah if you have a dotster account they automatically registered all your standard domains in .info

I.E Hostburst.com/.ca/.net and know i have .info

They had something like 25 free .info domains last year, but i guess there are companies that are still offering it.

Hmm, that's strange, usually those free .info names were registered and online within minutes. Are they their own ICANN accredited registrar?

Could it be an outdated link?

Possibly. I remember late last year when lots of registrars were offering 25 free .info domains, but I don't know about this.

Last year, afilias, the company who manage the .info registry launched the 25 free domain offer with several companies to try and populate the WHOIS database, as their sign-ups were slipping. Now I believe the domains are offered at a knock-down rate, somewhere between $1-2 / year to registrars.

I don't think they're still running the free promotion, so your link is either out-dated, or the company is planning to become loss leaders for now (small loss per registration) and planning to hit you hard on renewal fees next year, charges to transfer away, charge to change dns etc.

That link is outdated, now it's like $2 to register.

Update: They haven't contacted me yet, and the domain is still showing up as available. That's too bad :(
