I am trying to restore my RaQ3i server. I am not able to do this as apparently, I have either did something wrong or did not do something correctly.

Here is what I did.

Downloaded and created OS Restore (RaQ4r) on CD (How does one know if it was created/burned correctly? I used Nero and burned the image)

Selected a network server (NT Workstation).

Inserted the OS Restore CD into the CD on the NT server

Shutdown the NT Server

Plugged the NT Server into a standalone 100BaseTx hub

Plugged the RaQ3i server into the hub

Turned on the NT Server and logged in

Turned on the RaQ3i server while holding down the S button

Selected Load from Net

And...
Nothing happens :bawling: I see the Loading Kernel... on the LCD, but it will sit for hours.

I am not even sure if what I did was correct. This is the procedure that I found and was helped with. But I cannot restore the RaQ3i. I really need to know how to do this correctly and what I did wrong.

HELP!!!!!!

Well, it is finally going. What was happening or rather not happening was that the NT Server was not booting from the CD. I went into the BIOS and changed the boot order so that the server would boot from the CD before booting from the HD.

I then followed the steps and it appears to be doing something at this time. It is showing the Cobalt Icon display, followed by the Loading Kernel..., and then by booting... One thing that does seem strange, but perhaps it is processing normally, is that it seems to be doing the display, loading, and booting in a cycle, I mean that these are being displayed constantly. Is this normal? :dunce:

no. your desktop booted the CD and you leaf through the information-pages? It is not sufficient to just boot the CD

Recently we had to restore a raq 4i, but the only restore CDs we had were raq 4r (raid), so nontheless we tried. The process went quickly....too quickly...........and doesnt seem to realistic as it went through the restore process in less than 2 mins.

So, we downloaded a raq4i restore disk and that worked.......took 10 mins to restore, which is far more normal.

Could the problem be that you should restore your Raq 3 with 4i's restore disk instead of the 4r?

To dnid: I am not sure that I followed your message.

To Cephren: When I had the RaQ3 restored previously, it was by a small computer support company. I asked what version they used on the RaQ3 and they were very explict in using RaQ4r. However, I did find that the server did not have the "proper" network card. I am currently waiting for a store to open so that I can purchase the correct card. If the "correct" card does not work, then I will try the RaQ4i. Thanks for the tip! :D

Thanks for all the info and suggestions!

I have an OS Restore 4r cd that I am trying to restore a RaQ3i with. I boot up the PC with the CD and it stops at the instructions for the restore. Is this correct? If not, then is it a bad CD, bad CD unit, or something else? I did notice an error message during the bootup about the eth0 not being configured properly?

If this is correct, then why isn't the RaQ3i accessing the OS Restore CD? I have a server plugged into a hub, the network card is set for 100Base, and RaQ3i is plugged into the hub. And it just sits there, all smug and comfy.

Sorry, but just a bit frustrated that this is so difficult to do.
