View Full Version : Need host for mailing list

I'm trying to set up a mailing list for my dad, and I figure that a hosting plan with an included mailing list and control panel would be better than software run on a local machine that polls Exchange, but I need some help finding a plan that will best accomplish this.

As the mailing list will be for boat owners and will be run over VFR (radio), the messages must be less than 5kb in size, only in plain text, and contain no attachments.

This list will be for around 100 subscribers, so I'll need something that will allow for a decent amount of bandwidth, but no real big requirements, no real web space, databases, etc.

So I'm hoping I can find something in the $5/mo. range. I will need a control panel that will allow me/him to set the above message rules, also one that will allow for the privacy/public settings for joining the list.

Has anyone had any experiences with a host or Control Panel that would be best suited for this?

Paul,

If you or anyone else is looking for a free solution check out Yahoo! Groups. They have ads but seem to be a decent solution. I subscribe to a few lists powered by them.

David, the messages have to be under 5k in size as they will be run over VFR radio, and as such the ads on Yahoo! groups would most likely cause problems (even if they're text only, they still use up space).

Thanks David and roly, but as avara stated, plain text, small size (no ads) are an absolute requirement. While I'm not exactly looking to spend $20/month on this, and would like to keep my costs down, I'm also not looking for a free lunch, and am willing to pay to have the type of control I need, and do without ads, spam, etc.

Thanks again,

Paul
