I'm just curious about wireless internet options for a laptop when I'm not at home.. What's the best route to go?

purchase a nokia cell phone and hook it in your laptop and dial in to your isp. Here BPL mobile have introduced GPRS services (speed upto 112 kbps) at $20 a month (india), I am on waiting list and will be getting one soon.

Palm has a new machine that lets you send/receive email, browse the web, and so on at http://www.palm.com . It is 40 dollars a month for unlimited use.

David-

Will the palm check my regular pop3 boxes for support and sales? This has been an issue with "net-ready" phones. I wonder if it is the same for palms.

As far as cell phones...Voicestream only allows you to use it with a laptop for something like 17 webpages a month and 30 email.:(

Yup. I think it lets you check 5 accounts or something like that. You may also want to check out the Handspring Trio at http://www.handspring.com it is a Palm PDA and cell phone in one unit. It has gotten good reviews.

I just use dailup myself. I have nation wide accounts in both Australia and the USA (as I tend to drift between the two of them a fair bit). I just plug into the local line with a GlobalAccess modem and hit connect. A lot cheaper than the cell route.
