Wow, one of those days ;) The number of domain names registered in few years back then equals to the number of domain names registered in few hours today.

and yes they were FREE of charge ;)

That list may be flawed. The oldest registered domain that I can find is a se TLD. enea.se was registered 04-07-83. Unfortunately I do not have enough posts to post the url authenticating this. Rather than attempting to circumvent that restriction, I will post it if someone else cannot find it before I reach the necessary 5 posts.
