nice deal
SrvOutsource 03-04-2002, 03:13 AM You get a fixed 1Mbps pipe on a dedicated 10Mbps switched port (Not shared with any others servers.)
We just show the estimated traffic, since people are use to seeing this.
Furton 03-04-2002, 12:06 PM How much would an extra 256MB RAM be on the Base DS LC Configuration?
Can you install webmin and web.cp?
SrvOutsource 03-04-2002, 02:40 PM Furton,
For 256Mb extra RAM would be $20.00/Month
Webmin is installed automatically.
If you want Cpanel installed, you can direct you to a 3rd party we work with that can install it for you, and will charge you the monthly license fee for it.
WALoeIII 03-04-2002, 02:41 PM ip to ping?
franklo 03-04-2002, 04:53 PM Hi,
I am interested however would highly prefer one time fee for extra hard drive/RAM.
So are you able to offer that? If so please post the one time fee for:
Upgrade to 80 GB HD
Additional 40 or 80 GB HD
How many hard drives can server take?
Cost of RAM upgrade 256MB to 512 MB, 512 MB to 1000 MB, 1GB to 2 GB
How much RAM can server take?
Would server accept extra nic card? Price per extra nic card if so
Is it possible to hook two servers together via extra nic and have 2 mbs combined bandwidth (Bandwidth per 2 servers not per each)? If not what would be price for extra server with same bandwidth, meaning, 2 identical servers hooked together via nic card and with 1 mbs bandwidth?
Thanks
Frank
SrvOutsource 03-04-2002, 05:31 PM Snoozy,
Our system currently has ICMP blocked for security reasons.
So PING'ing the network will show a Request Timed out message/error.
Furton 03-04-2002, 05:50 PM But what about having a 1 time set up fee for upgrades?
you can still of course trace to the network even if icmps are blocked.
here is a trace to your server which also explains the pricing model

just a thought, basing your entire business on cogent bandwidth may not be a good idea, their 2001 sales were 745k with a cost of doing business of 54 million, most companies with those kinds of numbers are destined for the trash pile in short order.
Steve
SrvOutsource 03-04-2002, 06:16 PM Steve,
We are using CongentCo to compete with other companies that are doing the same.
We are also not just relying on Cogent for the dedicated servers.
You can not offer a $99.00/Month server with a 1Mbps connection (or 300Gb) without using Cogent.
Not with what the other Tier 1 providers are charging.
BTW Where did you get the IP address?
Its not one in our block, or network.
But is on the same system.
You can use the IP 66.232.6.5 now to test to.
dhlsg 03-04-2002, 06:37 PM How much are you charging for CPanel/WHM?
Steve
panopticon 03-04-2002, 06:38 PM Some of the companies who are using Cogent to offer a $100/month server also have lines from other providers in place and active. No matter who the provider is, I would feel better not relying only on one single source and thus one point of failure.
SrvOutsource 03-04-2002, 11:27 PM Steve,
Cpanel is available from a 3rd party, which you would lease the license from.
They are currently charging $99.00/Month for Cpanel/WHM.
SrvOutsource 03-04-2002, 11:27 PM panopticon,
A backup line will be in place within about a month, just incase for some reason Cogent did go down.
SrvOutsource 03-04-2002, 11:38 PM Frank,
Which server where you looking to upgrade the HD and memory on, the DS-LC or DS-1?
The server can take a max. of 2 hard drives
The motherboard support up to 1Gb of RAM
Yes, the server can take an extra NIC. This would be a charge of $15.00 - One time
We could setup a VPN for you if you wish to connect the server server to gether.
And then share the 1Mbps BW for each server (2Mbps total).
If you have more questions about the VPN, please e-mail us directly at sles@serveroutsource.net

With win2k server
1. do you provide Terminal Services for remote access, and
2. Can I add additional software as needed?
SrvOutsource 03-08-2002, 07:00 AM Leyi,
Windows 2000 Server comes with Terminal Services, if you wish to use this instead of pcAnywhere or VNC.
Since these are self managed dedicated servers, you can install any software you wish, as long as it does not violate the AUP (e.g. no ICQD, child porn, warez, etc.)
I like your offer but don't like to pay 3 months at one time. Can I pay monthly by monthly, or can I just pay setup fee to get two weeks free test, then I will pay quarterly if the server has been tested.
SrvOutsource 03-08-2002, 09:15 PM Leyi,
Unfortunately we do not offer an trials on dedicated servers due to the liability and cost to set one up.
We have also had alot of issues with people paying monthly, with there charge cards being declined, and not being able to get ahold of them.
If it helps, we can waive the setup fee if you pay quarterly.
porcupine 03-08-2002, 11:00 PM Are you now giving free setup on all accounts? (thats what it sounded like to me) :D
SrvOutsource 03-09-2002, 12:07 AM Could be our first special for WHT members.
Pre-Pay at least 3 months, and no setup fee.
How does this sound?
porcupine 03-09-2002, 01:19 AM I dont know, personally i'd have trouble going into 3 month payments with a new company whose also new to the board and i have little information about them, but thats just me. Not like im in the market for servers either way.
panopticon 03-09-2002, 01:33 AM Their monthly fee is pretty low though, and the investment over those 3 months will be less thay I'm thinking of spending at another company here ($275+$75+(possibly)$125 up front and then $99 a month). And it's also much less that you would invest to get a RackShack server setup. Plus many people will spend more than $300 (or more than $450 if you choose the high end server listed here) in a single month at another provider. So I don't think it's too much to risk.
The factor for me is that I don't want to rely only on cogent. I think once they get their backup line from someone in addition to Cogent they will be more competitive in my book.
OK. it is not a necessary to me to add one actually, I have 4 dedicated boxes from different companies. But your deal is not bad. If you could set it up within 48 hours, I would like to sign it up for a quarter.
So That's $297 in total, and 4 Ips, can be used, is that correct?
porcupine 03-09-2002, 03:04 AM Heh, but getting screwd is still getting screwd. No offense intended to any providers, but im sure if you bought a bad server for 3 months and noticed it was bad after 1 week, you'd be outraged regardless of how much $$$ you were loosing, it's more of a personal issue for most :\. Ahh well, what can ya do? If you've just been screwd, not much usually :D.
panopticon 03-09-2002, 03:19 AM I don't think many dedicated server providers if any, even the brand new ones, have a money back gaurantee (am I mistaken?) At least I haven't seen a money back gaurnatee in this forum (except for a pro rated amount you would get back based on a SLA, but that won't be much compated to the total invested.)
You have to risk $400 minimum to give rackshack a try. DV2 you can try for $150 I suppose, which is a little less than $300 but it's still money. Someone has to try a new host before they are well proven, else there would be no new hosts :)

So why bother mentioning it in the first place then?
Seems like you spend toooooo much time here flaming others
Just like the rest of us they are trying to provide a service. So being new is a risk?.....explain that to the users of companies that have gone bust and left their clients in the lurch.
Sounds like a good deal for those that are looking. As good as those that you post !
porcupine 03-09-2002, 06:45 AM Sparkle,
Point me to the flame, i think i missed it. I was pointing to the fact that a lot of people like monthly billing and they might want to reconsider offering it. Every package i've posted had people sign up for monthly even though we offer good discounts for quarterly/semi-annually, why? Because people are comfortable and secure with monthly billing. If anything they should be thanking me for pointing it out and looking into the stats of who buys what, because it might be beneficial for them. And yes, i do spend lots of time here, but not flaming people, just reading the forums, observing the competition/customers, what i expect most of the other people in my position do.
Anyhow, thanks for that little flame on me sparkle :uhh:, and im sure SrvOutsource will thank you too (as this will keep his thread at the top for another few hours for more to see).
BTW - sparkle:
root@p133:/home/Porcupine# host sparkle-host.com
Host sparkle-host.com. not found: 2(SERVFAIL)
Might want to look at one of these boxes yourself, looks like your nameservers aren't holding up too well, maybe you need a ns2 on a different network.
sparkle 03-09-2002, 06:58 AM seen as we use sparklehost.co.uk for the nameservers then we dont need to address this:dunce:
dhlsg 03-09-2002, 07:12 AM Hey Porcupine,
Right name, you certainly are a little Prickly at times :)
Take it easy, we are all here to discuss things - not to argue - It'll have repercussions later on in life if you don't calm down and take it all in your stride :)
Take 5. Absolutely NO offence intended.
Regards
Steve
SrvOutsource 03-09-2002, 04:52 PM porcupine,
What are you talking about???
No one is "getting screwed", why are you trying to flame us for no reason?
Just because you are our competition, and don't like our billing, pricing, what?
You may want to check the forum rules.

We setup boxes Monday - Friday.
If you ordered one today, it would be setup on Monday.
If you are interested, please e-mail us at sales@serveroutsource.net, I will also send you a direct e-mail.

Chicken 03-09-2002, 05:29 PM Not sure if porcupine was saying you'd get screwed by signing up with this offer, I think it is a hypothetical, though i can understand why you wouldn't appreciate such hypothetical statement in the thread. If you are actually interested in this offer, please feel free to comment, otherwise please be constructive via PM/Email.
porcupine 03-09-2002, 07:39 PM Thanks Chicken,
I was merely suggesting you also take the hassle to offer monthly billing, it'll pay off in the long run and explaining why, not insinuating that anyone was getting cheated by your offer.
And sparkle, if your domain isn't resolving, it doesen't matter what your nameserver is, noone can get to your domain so you really do need to adress this if you ever want people to be able to access your website.
I have sent my credit card detail by your online signup form.
The server I ordered is for private personal use, it will just host 1-3 small sites, and won't take heavy duties.
I want 4-5 IPs, Terminal services access, and I can do anything in front of
my desk, such as browser/ download / ftp... etc. That's all I ask.
SrvOutsource 03-10-2002, 09:43 PM We have lowered our additional bandwidth pricing, and now offer it in 500kbps blocks
Additional Bandwidth / Traffic:
500kbps - $30.00 per Month
1Mbps - $60.00 per Month
