well, everytime I log on to windows 98 I get this box that says enter network login name and password, so I click cancel, how can I get rid of this?

reinstall windows and dont use a password.

and tell it to fill in the password for you.:)

You have probably tweeked your TCP/IP, if your not on a network just remove all the microsoft network stuff that will work

You don't have to reinstall. There are 2 things you need to do..

1. In the control panel, under users, make sure you have it on all users using same account or something like that.

2. In your network properties, there is a pull down at the bottom where you have to choose windows logon.

I'm sorry I can't tell you exact since I have not used Win98 for years. But I hope this can help.

You can also enter in a username with no password.

It sounds like you have "client for microsoft networks" loading. Just go to "start", "settings", "control panel". Once the control panel window loads up click on "network". The network window will load up, and you will see a list of items. Highlight "client for microsoft networks" and then click the remove botton. If you see any others, such as "windows login", "client for netware networks" - remove them as well., but leave all of the hardware related items. Then, hit ok, it will ask you to reboot- and you should be good to go.

yah, ok, got rid of the network login, now there's a windows login, how can I get rid of that?

Don't hit cancel or escape. When this comes up, simply do not enter a password and choose OK. It may prompt you about not entering a password will disable the login but even if it doesn't, you shouldn't get the message anymore.
