I have recently been looking at implementing the OpenSRS solution (domain registering) as a value add to my clients. I have found that my current provider does not allow the scripts on any of their hosting packages. Does anyone know of a SOLID, REPUTABLE, service provider that will allow OpenSRS scripts to be used on their hosting packages, for a reasonable price? Or if someone here has done it before, any input/feedback would be great. TIA.

Cheers,

Well i don't know any but from the way you speak I assume you must be a reseller or website designer? and the best bet would be to move to getting your own dedicated server and setting it up on that...

We are an ISP that offers Opensrs domain registrations to our customers also. You should be able to run the scripts necessary that Opensrs requires with your hosting account....all you need is some cgi capabilities. If you have any questions, feel free to email me directly.

I *thought* all that was needed was a cgi bin. Is there something special about the script(s) that it needs more than just this? Just wondering for those of you who use OpenSRS.

I wouldn't mind knowing about OpenSRS etc, such as how easy it is to implement it etc. As we use Bulk Register at the moment and it would be nice to offer something that our customers have a bit more control over.

Opensrs perl scripts need extra perl modules that don't come with standard linux distribution (this is why you can't run em on host machine).

You should know what modules required so you can ask the host to do exactly. I recommend you install redhat Linux on a machine at home(5 mins) to test OpenSRS perl scripts, install necessary module yourself, if you register domain manually you can do it on this machine but if you need automatic process , compare what you have done at home to the scripts on your host machine and ask the hosting company to install the necessary modules, If they dont', move somewhere else.

I once asked interserver to install these perl modules and they did it in a few minutes without any charge so i highly recommend this company.

I also asked below10host to install em' but the ask me 10$ charging , I said no , but the finally complete it for me without any charge.

Bulkregister is not cop yet and may cause you and your customers headache.
