I hope this is the appropriate forum for this.

Anyway, I am moderator at a forum that is from UBB. The webmaster has had problems with this forum (diskspace problems) and is going to switch to VBB.

My question is this:

Can you take the 50K+ posts in the html format from UBB and transfer them to the php format of VBB?

Also what are the pros and cons of UBB vs. VBB, mainly in terms of reliability, server load, etc.

Thank you

Yes, vB has an importer to bring posts/users/settings from your old UBB to your new vB....

They have an importer from UBB 5.x, 6.x, 6.1.x, and I think they have finished the 6.2.x importer.....

vBulletin will have less of a server load since PHP is generally not run as a CGI like perl is, and having a Mysql backend speeds it up even more.... Do a search here, and then do a search on your UBB, see which one is faster......

Okay I'll put this into car terms and say disk space is gas and top speed is server resources. UBB would be a Hummer which get's like 5 Miles to the gallon and tops out at 90MPH and the vBB would be a pimped out Honda Civic that get's 30MPG.

Didn't that make any sense?

First, VBulletin is the leader, the standard by which others are judged. However, due to price, others are worth considering. I like phpBB and Burning Board, second and third to VB.

I have burning board, which I think is very similar to Vbb (not perfectly sure)

Best of all it is free :D

Thats not exactly right.. Hummers are cool.. UBB isn't.. Infact its banned from a number of hosts.... :D

Look what happend to XMB, it split because of bad management, and now its a pain to get proper support, do you really see that happening with vB?

I had hosted forum powered by both UBB and vB before, and vB which I am currently using now beats everything against UBB....be it feature wise, speed, template managing..
