Opinions needed: Support by Phone or by Email
if you offer only support by email does it cost you clients
if you offer sign up by email only does it cost you clients

Email support gives you the ability to research the answer before replying. Nothing's worse than having an irrate customer on the phone demanding service now! when it takes time to do whatever. Also, with email you can build a DB of contacts and use it as reference or to see where you're having problems with service. Also, if you keep your emails around you have a record of the events incase a customer goes postal (i.e. sues). You could record phone conversations but that's a hassel and has legal implications. And with email you can probably handle more contacts for support than by phone (can only be on one line at a time).

Same things with email or online sign up. But in that case I would be too picky. If someone wants you to call them to discuss service or take their order go for it! Be sure to send a receipt email or even snail mail too.
