BadBoy 03-04-2002, 02:03 AM Well myself personally i wouldnt recommend them to anyone i know.Although they offer a package that no one else can compare there service is not all that great,i myself had my website down for about 3-4 days and sent in trouble tickets and they were never responded to till i brought it to someones attention on there board. There control panel is also kind of "messed up" ive noticed like when you click on "reviews" it takes you to your stats page and some other ones. Also when you submit billing questions sometimes the tickets are closed with no answer or it takes days for a response.
xsynthesis 03-04-2002, 03:27 AM well, I was willing to give them a chance even after they suspended my account for 3-4 days because the Ikonboard I was using was crashing their server. When I submitted a trouble ticket about this, that was all the information I received, nothing else about how to get unsuspended, or how to fix my problem.
I was constantly worried from that point that something I would do would crash their servers causing them to suspend the site, so I would keep up with their forum, pay close attention to my stats (which I never really had to do before).
My account with them now is suspended because my community website which probably received about 500-600 page visits a day, including our messageboard (running on OpenBB which is run on a PHP based script), was too much for their servers, even though I was well below the guidelines. ( We took up less than 40 mbs of space and less than 2 gigs/month of bandwidth and other than the OpenBB forum, we had no crazy scripts running). If I were to continue using their services than I would have to move to a semi-dedicated server at $65/month which I definitely can't afford.
I do not understand where this is perfectly okay to some people.
I've dealt with Communitech and Dreamhost (I'm still dealing with Dreamhost), and none of those have given me as many headaches in the short time I was with HR.
I'm sorry to say though I was going to give them a second chance after this billing period (I only paid for 3 months), that I can't recommend them. It is too bad because they do sound too good to be true. Oh well...
HRBrendan 03-04-2002, 06:06 AM Hi,
I'm pretty familiar with your account because I've dealt with it a few times and while I dont know which part of your site is causing it, I do know that your site consistantly had 30+ apache processes running at any given time. For the level of traffic that your site reports this is not normal. I cant speak for all hosts, but for us that is a lot for a single shared hosting account. It uses a lot of server memory etc, and is around the point where we ask customers to upgrade to semi-ded accounts, even if temporarily while they seek a new hosting option. It has nothing to do with your disk usage or bandwidth usage which is about average for our custers, we have users who max those out every month and dont cause problems on the servers. Any admin here can tell you that u can have a script that uses 1k/month of bandwidth and storage and costs them more than u could ever cost them in bandwidth and storage costs by making an entire server of unhappy customers if it is screwing things up. We do not suspend users accounts because we want to we only do it if we have to, and we contact you immediatly if we do and even open a ticket for you to help speed up the resolution process. Looking at your logs it actually looks like some sort of webcam reloading the same page many times a second might be the culprit but that should be resolved through one of our approved lines of support not this forum, so please contact us that way if you havent already.
As for getting a good sampling of opinions about our hosting, try going over to our forums (which are all pretty looking now!) and emailing a few of our current customers to get their opinions directly. Theres a much higher concentration of them that hang out there.
If youre going to check out another host, check out wizardshosting.com, they have a good package and you'll have better luck with them than alot of other hosts that you'll run across.

xsynthesis 03-04-2002, 11:44 AM Hi Brendan,
Thanks for replying here. I've sent in a ticket yesterday about what I could do about the problem. The thing is, I do want my site to host live webcams (not many, at least 2 or 3) and support a messageboard but I have problems doing that at the price I want through your services. My current suspension at least was fair, I was given good notice and so far trouble tickets were answered quickly.
Even if I started charging my friends for hosting services (which I won't do), a semi-dedicated account isn't in the budget right now, so unfortunately I will have to look elsewhere for hosting. Heh, I'll probably get burned with it or something, but I'm hoping I won't be.
Who knows how the solution will end up being.
Pamela
HRBrendan 03-04-2002, 12:04 PM Well however it works out if you do end up going to a new host I would clear the webcam thing with them first to help avoid some more possible problems you might run into.

KellyAdmirer 03-04-2002, 09:06 PM Hostrocket is a good host. They take such a beating on these boards, but they deliver what they say they do. Their support system is ok, and has solved several problems regarding my site. I recommend them unless you absolutely need instant support and/or need a lot of help solving unique problems, in which case, pay the extra money for telephone support somewhere else.
