Hello guys. I host a large forum site (10.000+ impressions/day -running mySQL) in a Cobalt RaQ 4i with 256MB RAM. This server hosts other sites, too. I want to move this site in another dedicated server Athlon 1GHz with 1GB RAM. I would like to know if I'll see changes in the speed of the site. Could anyone make a prediction in % (for example, 30% up for the speed, etc)? Thank you!

I think it really depends on the forums software, I've seen some Yabb boards crawl, even when they are put on extremely beefy servers, and I've seen some versions of Ikonboard crawl, when they are busy and have lots of messages on some other beefed up servers.

It all depends, theoretically if you put it on your own server, with nobody else, it should be faster, though I wouldnt even start to guess at a %.

I have seen cgi based forum software such as Ikonboard causing RaQs to crawl and then crash. I would recommend using boards written in PHP which are infinitely more resource friendly being loaded into Apache itself.

There might be a way around the cgi problem using mod_perl or fast cgi also..
