I need some feedback regarding something. Normally how would you guys configure your server for shared hosting?

1) Do you use one server and host all your hosting packages?
eg. 1 decidated server - 100,200,300MB plans all on one server.

or

2) Do you use one server for each hosting package?
eg. 1 dedicated server for 100MB packages, 1 dedicated server for 200MB packages and so on.

thanks.

Are you talking about shared hosting or dedicated hosting, or "virtual dedicated" hosting? Shared hosting is obviously on one server (shared) (and can have shared clients across a large amount of servers, of course, there's a limit to how many you'll have on one server (which can be judged by what sites are running and how much traffic they use, etc. -- to make sure you have plenty of resources)), dedicated servers are dedicated; hence their own server and only one client on each of their server. However, a "virtual dedicated" is people all having accounts and control "pretty much" like their own server (i.e., they are virtual root can can install things, etc.) and the number of clients would then be determined upon the resources and the plans you sell. I guess I don't understand your question.

I think m00ds means to ask if for example he/she has 5 different packages (lets's say from package1 with 100mb space to package5 with 500mb space), should he/she get 5 different servers and put all package1 customers on one server, all package2 servers on another server, etc, etc.. Or if he/she should just get one server and put all users (no matter what package) on the same server.

If this is the case, I would say go with 1 server and put all customers on it. Then when it's starting to get full, get another server, and so on.

I agree with Mr. Amazon. It is a good idea to spread all packages accross all servers ;)
