I signed up with gearhost.com a few days ago, following the advice of a few posts on the WHT Forums. Gearhost certainly looked professional, they're dirt cheap, and my account was set up immediately, but it all turned out to be too good to be true.

I signed up for their Silver account and then realised that I needed extra space and extra domains, so minutes after signing up I opened a support ticket for them to upgrade me to a Gold Account. I was hoping this could be done quickly (ie. in a couple of hours).

Hi

I've just signed up for a Silver account and I'd like you to upgrade me to a Gold account ASAP. I just realised I need the extra domains.

Thanks.

Needless to say, they haven't upgraded my account yet.

Am I expecting too much that they can upgrade my server within 24 hours? What happens if there's a serious issue with the server/account in the future? How long will it take them to respond?

Can anyone recommend a decent, professional NT/Windows-based host who run their own hardware etc (ie. no highschool kids renting a rackshack box)? Or even a unix host with .asp scripting support? I don't mind paying for reliability!

I think you have the most unique problem with Gearhost. Check this out: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38098

Not to defend gearhost in any way. Some host do run a smaller shift on weekends but it looks like you sent this to them on a week day.. I would think they would of upgraded it by now. They don't let you upgrade from with in the CP?

You have to understand about GearHost, the have some home made control panel that is only about 25 % implemented. Customers have no choice but to request even the simplest tasks through a support ticket, turn around likely to be about 48 hours. Makes it hell to try and even use the space.

I have a server at GearHost for some of my clients Windows/CF stuff.

Uptime is as good as can be expected on a shared Windows Box.

Their control panel is still unfinished but looks promising.

Ryan is a cool guy .... he's got alot on his plate right now.
