Hello,
My hosting plan with current company is ending and I do not want to extend it. I need a hosting account very urgently.
I am looking for an an account to host about 6 websites. Requirments are as below:
Storage: approx 1GB
mySQL database
data transfer: about 3 GB
ASP/PHP enabled
Website backup service through control panel
Price: about $10 per month
I also need to take away the existing domains from my current company and transfer it to the new company. I don't know how this is done - will it be complicated? Can the current company withhold the domains?
Thank you.

Are you domains purchased through the current company?
Are you on a cpanel server currently?

Yes, the domains are purchased through them. No, I do not have cPanel, but a very simple control panel. Thank you.

Depending on the company you may be able to leave your domains there or transfer them away, some companies get sticky about that sort of thing though.
As far as transfering the site I am not exactly sure how easy it will be with a custom control panel. cPanel/WHM has the ability to transfer a site very easily but obviously that won't work. Some companies will still work with you on this, I would suggest when you find some decent companies to contact them about this before signing up and see who can help you out.
Their are lots of companies advertising here - http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=4
Make sure once you find a few companies with specs you need to research them here as well.

Thank you for the reply.
I do not have any problem transfering the website as I already have a backup of each site. Only one site uses mySQL database and some others use Access. So no problem in that. Maybe I was not too clear - but my concern is tranfering the domain to another company.
why don't you do a 'whois' check on your domain? i assume its .com/.net/.org domain, if thats the case, you can always try visit internic.net and do a whois. If YOU are listed as the admin etc then chances are you can take them with you.
As for host, there are plenty of host out there who would be able to provide you those kind of pkg. But not sure how many would be able/willing to help you move your files should your require that service.

What is not clear is how the domains were purchased. Did you actually create an account when you registered the domains or did you just pay them?
Do a lookup on one of your domains and paste the results here or list one of the domain names so we can have a look. http://www.internic.net/whois.html
If they purchased the domain and want to give you a hard time they can. It would be a tough fight but we have seen the domains get put back to the real owner. The morale of the story is to register your domains on your own!

I did a whois. My name and email are listed under Administrative details while their detals are listed as Technical. Therefore transfering the domain should not be a problem?

It shouldn't be a problem.
Why don't you talk to your host and tell them that you want full control over your domains?
