What's the cheapest domain place around? Where I can transfer it and everything.

Thanks,
David

I registered some domain names with yahoo (they say only 1 but one can actually do more), but transfering is a pain. You start by cancelling the Yahoo domain services, then contacting Customer Care and asking them to transfer the domain control over to their underlying registrar, Melbourne IT (all this takes a couple of emails back and forth, taking at least 24-48 hours each). Then, if all goes smoothly, you can transfer. If it is a TLD requring an EPP code, you have to email Melbourne IT, who will take 48 hours to get that to you. I have 4 domains with Yahoo, and have spent nearly a week on this...I think 3 of them are in the process of being transferred. The 4th one is stuck in limbo right now. It will all get straightened out, but I don't think the time spent was worth a little $$ I really saved.

Experience is the best teacher...

Transfers with Yahoo have always been a pain, because of Melbourne IT.

As for the transfer fee it is around $6-$10 on average, just transfer it to the one, you like most.

I'm also agree with spending a lil more money to get a better registrar, whom will give you ease on managing the domain name, changing whois, DNS, transferring and reminds you about domain renewal.

I think GoDaddy is good but, their site too many commercial ads. Any other nice one?

I have bought 2 domains from http://www.echolima.com/ great service! The just ended a special, they were selling domains at $3.95! Looks like I will be using them for my domain needs. You can login and change all the nameservers and all that, it's great!

In my past experience transferring out of MelbourneIT was not hard after certain problems were solved. It was necessary to have correct whois-listed email address, but my whois-listed email address was destroyed when I pulled the plug on Yahoo hosting. It took a complaint to Santa Clara County DA to get Yahoo to be helpful to get MelbourneIT to change my whois-listed address to the Yahoo address that the defunct user-created address was supposed to forward to. (It was about this time that I started visiting this board and needed to choose a nickname for it.)
So to make a long story short, it should be possible to transfer easily out of MelbourneIT, but only after you have everything set up with information with which Yahoo is not very forthcoming.

I am wondering how much Yahoo will be asking for renewal. I think that is why they'll sell you all the "one-to-a-customer" $4.98 registrations you want.
